Kingston is a company that makes some really great memory cards, but they also make some really great headphones and other products. Today, I had a chance to review the HyperX Cloud Stinger, the HyperX Cloud Revolver, and the MobileLite Wireless G3.

The first two are headphones for gamers, and I will start with the Hyper X Cloud Stinger. Now, this is billed as “an ideal headset for gamers looking for lightweight comfort”, and I am going to agree with that. Seriously, it is very light compared to some of the gaming headsets that I have reviewed in the past.

It is also very versatile. It says that it is good for the PC, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, Mac, and Mobile. I can’t remember the last time I saw something with that much compatibility on the box.

You are also going to get a better fit because this has ear cups that can rotate at a 90-degree angle for a great fit. It has some HyperX signature memory foam, with a volume control on the headset ear cup. Speaking of volume, the sound is also good since it has 50 mm directional drivers that can position sound directly into the ear for gaming-grade sound and audio precision.

Oh, it also has a swivel-to-mute noise-cancellation microphone. You should be able to get the HyperX Cloud Stinger on the Kingston site, and it will cost about $49.99.

All right, let’s look at the HyperX Cloud Revolver. I might as well get to the comparison of the HyperX Cloud Stinger. I will say that the HyperX Cloud Revolver is much heavier than the latter video headphones. The reason for the higher weight is due to the durable steel frame, but what is interesting is that it has some memory foam on the earcups.

Now they do have next generation 50 mm drivers for some much better sound (well, 50 mm is higher than 30 mm). However, it has a studio-grade sound stage, but I am not certain what that means. If it is that the sound is good, who cares what you call it?

It means great sound for gaming, and like the Cloud Stinger, it works for the PC, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, Mac, and Mobile. Yep, it’s pretty versatile, just like the HyperX Cloud Stinger. I suppose it would be easy to just say that the Cloud Revolver is a Stinger upgrade, but that might be too much an over-simplification.

Right now, you can find them on the Kingston site for $119.99, and I think that that could be a holiday markdown.

Now, let’s get to the last product. The other one is the MobileLite Wireless G3, which is a product that is somewhat difficult to describe.

The MobileLite Wireless G3 is made to be two things. I will start with a personal cloud. I talked about this with Apollo Cloud from Promise Technology. The personal cloud is a place where you can access files that exist in your personal space, and the Mobile Wireless G3 gives you a lot of it.

You have to provide the SD card or insert a USB drive. If you want to clear off some space on your wireless device, you can do that for as much as you can put on your memory devices. By the way, you can get some great memory devices on Kingston.

Now there is another use for this: charging a mobile device. You can charge a phone up to 2 times when this thing is fully charged. Yes, this is a mobile device, and you can connect your tablet or smartphone to the USB port.

Now, the Kingston MobileLite Wireless G3 is available at a holiday rate for $65.00. Then there is the MobileLite Wireless Pro, which comes with 64 GB already installed, which costs a little more at $130.00 (also a holiday rate). Check them out on the Kingston site here.

Also, do you want to hear more about the latest in technology? In early January, there is a big event in Las Vegas known as CES (Consumer Electronics Show). I want to go and report on it, but I need some help. I have a new GoFundMe site that will “Send Mark (me) to CES 2017”. Please click here and make a donation.

Now it is our second part of a three-part series on UAG (Under Armor Gear). This next UAG product for today is the Trooper Case, made for the Samsung Galaxy S7. It is also pretty hard, but the inside is very soft, like a rubber trampoline.

Perhaps the reason for its rubbery inner nature is that it is hollow inside. The Trooper is made so you can open it up and insert up to 4 credit cards. Because all you need is a driver’s license, credit cards, and no wallet!

You can rest assured that what you put in your Trooper wallet case will stay there, as it snaps shut very tight. In fact, it can be downright hard to open at first, and hopefully it will stay shut tight as time goes by.

You should be able to purchase the Trooper Case for the Samsung S7 on the UAG site for $39.95 in Black, White, or Rust.

As for the Composite case, it is very tough, and yet it has a soft rubberized grip around the edges. It is made of some kind of material which is quite light, and it has these cool bolt things on it that don’t do anything but add to the aesthetic quality.

You should be able to purchase the Composite case for the Samsung Galaxy S7 in Black, White, Rust, Ice (transparent), Ash (gray), Magma (Fiery Red), and Cobalt (Dark Blue) for $34.95 on the UAG site.

Okay, now that we are in a series about Gumdrop Cases, it is time to talk about another one. This is the impact resistant, dual-layer silicone/ABS construction DropTech Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Case.

I’ll go ahead and say that it has that clean tire tread look that is characteristic to Gumdrop Cases. I’ll also go ahead and say that the design is very similar to the Hideaway Case for the iPad Pro 12.9. That is, it has a rubbery flap in the back to allow the Surface Pro 4 to lean back and become a kickstand.

By the way, there is a full integration with the Surface Pro 4 kickstand, and the ports for the keyboard connection are fully accessible. Also, there is a built-in Microsoft Pen slot. Oh, and I think we can’t ignore that Tech and Learning magazine named the DropTech Microsoft Surface Pro 4 case a winner for their 2016 awards of excellence.

You should be able to get the DropTech Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Case on the Gumdrop cases website for $69.95.

Time to talk about the DropTech for the iPhone 7. Unlike my first three cases that I have reviewed, this Gumdrop Case is made for the smartphone. I was thinking that it would have that tire tread look to it, but it actually is a transparent case. The border is that rubbery feel that feels imported from the aforementioned tire tread tablet cases.

Just to let you know, the transparent protection is only on one side. So it will cover the back of your iPhone, but you will have to purchase a screen protector for the front. By the way, the case has an obvious “Gumdrop Cases” label on it. Then again, I don’t think I know any case of a protective case that didn’t have a label on it.

All in all, I would recommend this, so head over to the Gumdrop Cases site and lay down $34.95 for it, and snap in your iPhone 7.

Also, do you want to hear more about the latest in technology? In early January, there is a big event in Las Vegas known as CES (Consumer Electronics Show). If you aren’t familiar with UAG, it stands for Urban Armor Gear, and they make some of the most protective cases this side of Otterbox. I’m just going to assume you know who Otterbox is, and this is the first UAG product that I will be reviewing this week. They are some great ones with a case for both the iPad Pro 9.7 inch version and the 12.9 inch version.

I’ll go ahead and start with the case for the iPad Pro 9.7-inch version. The case is described as being “Frogskin” non-slip grip. I think that they got the non-slip grip part right, but something about this reminds me of an alligator skin, really. Whatever the reptile or amphibian, at least it isn’t slimy.

In addition to the protection, there are also some other great features. The first is that there is a holder for the Apple Pencil, and the clasp shuts magnetically. What is great is how the cover can be separated, and you can attach a Smart Cover/Keyboard to it.

All in all, the case for the iPad Pro 9.7 inch version is pretty great, and it can be purchased on the UAG site for $59.95 in colors of black, red, and blue.

As for the the case for the iPad Pro 12.9 inch version, there isn’t really much of a noticeable difference. I believe it is known as the Metropolis line, but I don’t see that moniker given for the 9.7 inch version.

The Metropolis case for the iPad Pro 12.7 inch version has most of the same features. It has an adjustable and detachable stand, the “Frogskin” or “Alligatorskin” exterior, as well as the built-in Apple Pencil holder. It is also compatible with the Apple Smart Keyboard.

About the only difference that I see is the magnetic clasp, which appears to be bigger, for some odd reason. Also, there is more that weird bolt look that I have discussed in earlier reviews. It must be a weird UAG aesthetic. I should probably explain that this appears to be trend.

Anyway, you can purchase the UAG Metropolis case for the iPad Pro, 12.9 inch version on the UAG site for $89.95.

Also, do you want to hear more about the latest in technology? In early January, there is a big event in Las Vegas known as CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Even though we are out of the season where “visions of sugarplums are dancing in children’s heads”, I am going to cover something related to that with the Gumdrop Cases. Okay, that is about it for my clever introduction, so let’s get to covering the DropTech Case + HandStrap and the Hideaway Case.

I’ll start by saying the case for the iPad Pro 9.7 has what I would have to call “a Gumdrop case” look. It feels like a tire tread, but cleaner. Seriously, I don’t know how else to describe it, but I like its feeling of rubbery-ness.

Inserting in the iPad Pro 9.7 is pretty easy, as it has an inner frame that opens up and just lets it in. However, there is another great feature here with the Hand Strap.

I have reviewed products like the Hand Strap before, and the DropTech Case has a big hole for it. What you do is use the adhesive ring on the back of the iPad, and the Hand Strap locks into place. The Hand Strap is made so you can hold the iPad in one hand on the back without dropping it.

The Hand Strap has a way of being 360 degree flexible so you can even spin your favorite Apple tablet in the palm of your hand. It feels very ergonomic, and it is pretty great for straps with Velcro.

You should be able to purchase the DropTech Case with Hand Strap for the iPad Pro 9.7 on the Gumdrop Cases site for $89.95.

Now let’s talk about the Hideaway series (I guess I will call it that) is how the stand can extend for video content viewing. I don’t remember if the 12.9 inch version had this, but the stand can magnetically lock into the back of the Hideaway case.

So that is a unique feature, but one has to talk about what is similar. In the case of the Hideaway, it is the tire tread texture. Man, I am really hooked on making that description about Gumdrop cases.

Oh, it also has one of these Apple Pencil holders, and it is pretty easy to install the iPad into it. Oh, there is also some screen protection, and yet you can still access all the stuff from the touchscreen.

You should be able to purchase the Hideaway iPad Pro 9.7 Case on the Gumdrop Case site for $69.95.

I will have to say that this is some technology that I am surprised has not really taken off. It is about the Whoosh 3D, a screen protector for the iPhone, and it soon will be available for other products as well. From what I can tell, Whoosh is pretty young, as one of the products that I will be reviewing, the Whoosh VR Cardboard, doesn’t even have a website devoted to it yet. I’ve never even seen that before.

You heard me right, I said 3D. Remember 7 years ago when Avatar was really popular, and audiences were so impressed by its 3D nature? I will have to admit, the film might only be mediocre and the story is unoriginal, but at least the 3D sucked people in. After that, every film had to have a 3D option, and it was thought that this would affect the smartphone and tablet business. Heck, the tablet business didn’t even really exist in 2010.

HTC tried to capitalize on the 3D fad back in 2011 when they released the HTC EVO 3D, and it was able to show things in 3D. Why did this not take off? Why doesn’t every Apple, Android, or Windows phone have this capability?

This is where Whoosh3D comes in. This Whoosh3D is a tempered 3D lens that has high optical transparency and can make a smartphone into a 3D viewer. I had my first chance to see this technology at CES last January, and the reason why I am hesitant to report on it is because it is difficult to describe. It takes

The Whoosh 3D is able to have some serious depth control so you can watch a lot of videos with a 3D option. You can go 2D if you really want to, but who can refuse creating your own 2D videos and turn them into 3D that is glasses-free.

I am told that you can get the Whoosh 3D for smartphones for about $29.99-$34.99, and I am told it can be purchased for tablets for $59.99. The 3D app is free, and you can get more information about it here.

Now, I am going to do a report on a VR viewer from Whoosh 3D. Just to let you know, most of the time when I write about a product, even one that I am reviewing, I usually take what I see from the main site and put it in my own words. This time, I didn’t really have anything from the Whoosh main site, which is odd, to say the least.

I had a chance to try this out, and it is a VR viewer that has double clickers. In all honesty, I am not certain why anyone would need duel clickers, because of the VR programs that I tried, I couldn’t find one that practically used both of these.

Still, everyone needs to have one of these VR viewers, don’t they? You might as well have one with two clickers, because this could easily be a standard. There are even some apps that Whoosh has created for it.

I was able to find it on Argomall, and the price is ₱999.00, and I have no idea what that translates.

I believe that 2017 is when this company is going to take off, and it should be great as it does.

This is probably going to be one of the last reviews that I will be doing before the weekend of Christmas, so I’m going to do one that is a very practical gift, for the ladies. Okay, I don’t know if it is totally for the ladies, but I will say that something like this bracelet wouldn’t be something that I would give my dad. I would say “to each his (or her) own”, but I will say that Ashley Chloe’s Helix Cuff is quite unique as it is useful.

It appears that the Helix Cuff was created to meet a demand in the iPhone market. Even months before Apple’s latest smartphone was released, it was rumored that it wouldn’t have a headphone jack. So it just makes sense to invest in Bluetooth earbuds. What makes the Helix Cuff interesting is how these Bluetooth earbuds are implemented.

The Helix Cuff is a bracelet that locks on the wrist really well magnetically, and you can use it to store the Bluetooth Wireless earbuds. It is very unique how it does it, and you would honestly never know that the earbuds were even there. As I said before, it looks like the Helix Cuff is marketed for ladies, as it could easily be mistaken for jewelry.

These wireless earbuds can respond to voice commands so you can access Siri or similar program on an Android phone. They also use aptX technology for great sound, and I can testify to how good that it is.

So, I would like to think that there is a future for the Ashley Chloe and the Helix Cuff, and it is hopefully yours. Seriously, if this is something that you want, I will highly recommend it, and it can be purchased on the Ashley Chloe site for $199.

If you have never heard of Soundmatters, then you should know that they are very good at making Bluetooth speakers. These speakers are very small, such as the Moment.

The Moment is a speaker that will fit in the palm of your hand, but you would be surprised at how much sound it can put out. It is billed as an ultra-portable audiophile speaker, the company says that it uses patented carbon-poly acoustic drivers and carbon-fiber infused body in order to provide near-field listening.

I paired the Moment with my smartphone to listen to music, and I will testify to the ultra-precise, wide-frequency sound, as well as clear detailing and deep dynamics. This is always the difficulty of reviewing speakers, as how many times can I say: “it sounds good”.

The battery life is good for up to 10 hours, with 90 minutes on a full charge. Now would be the time to talk about how it can charge. There is a place on the back of the moment that is one of those Energizer Wireless Charging technology stamps.

In fact, the Moment comes with a stand with suction cups on the bottom that allows connection to a USB/micro USB cord. All you do is just stick it on, and it is like the Moment is a bust, and the stand/charger is the neck. By the way, the charging cord can be used on the Moment speaker itself.

All in all, the Moment is one terrific Bluetooth speaker, and it can be purchased for about $169.00 ($249 MSRP) on the Soundmatters site.

I suppose that the best way that I can describe our Leo the Lion is just compare him to Teddy Ruxpin. Yeah, you probably saw that one coming, as this is how my wife described it when I showed it to her. If you are not familiar with Teddy Ruxpin, it was a Teddy Bear with a tape recorder on his back. When you put in specially made tapes, his lips would move with the dialogue. Would it move its lips to any cassette tape? I don’t know, because I was too old to have one when I was a kid.

Leo The Lion, as well as other animals in the Bluebee Pals collection (see below), has the same basic ability. However, it is made for the age of smartphones and tablets, and it will sync via Bluetooth to any Apple or Android device. Not only will it read a story to your youngster, but he or she can see it acted out on the screen.

Some might find that a little weird, but people have been saying that since the days of … Teddy Ruxpin. Of course, no machine can take place of a parent, and if you need a reminder, the parent doesn’t say things like “remind to charge”. Yeah, you do need to charge this thing with the included USB Micro-charger cable.

You can get Leo the Lion on the Bluebee Pals site for $64.99. You can also find his friends Hudson the Puppy, Riley the Zebra, Parker the Monkey, and Sammy the Bear for the same price. Is there some collect them all thing going on? I’m not certain.

The Circuit Scribe is made for Makers. Yes, I actually think this is the first time that I talked about Maker culture on geekscape.net (save for my books), and it usually gets grouped with words like STEM and ways of learning about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics by doing and building.

I will describe the CircuitScribe as one of those circuit/science kits. I remember that my sister had this thing that had all kinds of projects, and you would wire things to other things, and yeah, I’m just not doing a good job of this.

You can build a lot with this Maker Kit. The purpose the Maker Kit from Circuit Scribe is to teach kids (and adults) about building circuits. What is interesting is how you build them, it’s not like there is a green board or something. Instead, all you need is some paper and these modules.

Oh yes, you will also need a pen. This pen has some kind of ink that allows it to conduct electricity. There are about eleven modules and a 9 volt battery, and you can use the pen’s ink to connect them together.

You can learn a lot about LED lights, Switches, Transistors, and Resistance. If you don’t know what those are, and how those apply to electronics, this Maker Kit is for you. Yes, you can make a lot with this, and it is quite versatile with a buzzer, blinker, and all sorts of things.

If you want to learn as you build, head on over to the Circuit Scribe site and lay down about $79.99 on the Maker Kit. You should also check out what is available on the Circuit Scribe site and learn a lot more.

If you are not familiar with Goal Zero, they are a very interesting company that I met with once. They told me that their name was to create energy with zero emissions. For that reason, the company puts out a lot of solar-powered products, and similar things like the Flip 30, a mobile battery (with an edge).

The Flip 30 is a mobile battery, and I have written about several since I’ve been here at Geekscape, so you probably know the drill. I think it would be better to talk about what is different about this product.

This weighs about 6.8 ounces and feels like a heavier and bigger Zippo lighter. I like how the USB connector just flips out and can rotate, with some great clicking noises. If you stick the Flip 30 in a USB port to charge it, you will want to make certain that you support it for its weight. It takes about 5 hours to charge, and then you can charge anything.

You should be able to purchase the Flip 30 on the Goal Zero site for a holiday special price of $39.99. It is in Charcoal Gray or Goal Zero Green. Yeah, you heard that right.

Well, it is last minute gift time, and so I might as well recommend a few products that Monster puts out. Monster is known for its cables, but then decided that they would make pretty much anything technological, and they sell a lot of attitude as well.

I’ll start with the Monster Power and Charging Station is one of the more high quality power strips that you can buy. This Monster Power and Charging Station is part of the company’s new Living Spaces collection, which means it is made for the “demands of today’s charging lifestyle”.

So what does a charging family need? How about 4 power outlets and 4 USB ports (4.8 A). The Power Outlets have Monster Fireproof MOV technology, as well as power filtration shields that protect from EMI/RFI. Anyone know what that is? Oh, it has a 6 foot power cord.

You can’t really see this in the picture, but from the side, the shape is like that of a house. You can use the “roof” as a stand for a phone or tablet, so that is handy if you keep this power strip on your desk, like many do. Another interesting feature is the back light, made for an accent or night light.

The Monster Power and Charging Station is quite an office-themed gift. It can be purchased on the Monster site for $79.95 (MSRP of $89.95).

Let’s move on to the The Monster SuperStar HotShot, also known as a “Little Speaker with a Loud Attitude”. The HotShot is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and you can see that it has a loop there for a clip.

Yes, this is made for life on the road, but it doesn’t look as waterproof as speakers that I have seen from other companies. It does have a 5.5 hour play life, so it is good for at least the afternoon.

Oh, and the SuperStar HotShot is also NFC capable, and it can be used as a speakerphone for conference calls. It also is able to connect to any audio source with a wire as well.

All in all, it could make a good stocking stuffer provided your stocking has a wide mouth. Yeah, you might want to put this on top. It is available on the Monster site in black with neon-blue, black with black platinum, white with chrome, and black with gold for $49.99.

Let’s conclude with The Monster iSport Victory Bluetooth, made for those who want to keep their tunes with them as they are working out. If you are the type of person who exercises about 8 hours a day, the iSport Victory should do it.

I believe what makes it a sports or athletic earbud is the fact that it comes in two sound profiles, warm-up and sports, along with Turbo Mode. It is also quite durable and sweatproof, and the cable is reflective for night running.

By the way, they are not only Bluetooth wireless, but they have some very light weight going on them. They have some secure fit ear-hooks, so they will stay in the ear, unlike a plain set of earbuds.

If this is something that you want or need, head on over to the Monster site and lay down $99.95. They are available in Black, Green, or Blue.

Welcome to the world of the ChargeHub! If you aren’t familiar with them, they create these things that you can plug in and get more USB ports than you had before. Yes, ’tis the season, and the ChargeHub X7 could be the perfect gift for…anyone.

The reason why is because everyone now has a whole bunch of electric devices, and everyone needs some way to power them. The ChargeHub X7 is a 7 Port USB Universal Charging Station, a place where you can just plug it in and plug in your smartphone, tablet, Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth earbuds, and anything else you want to do.

In fact, this particular device is so simple to use and so useful, I am not certain if I should even write about it anymore. I do admire how the ChargeHub comes in a circle or square shape, and when it is plugged into the wall, it exudes a lovely glow. Oh, it also comes in many colors.

You should be able to purchase the ChargeHub X7 for $59.99 on the company website, and it comes with a Micro USB CableLinx.

If you have never heard of MiLi, they put out a lot of intriguing accessories. It seems like they are designed for Apple products, and maybe they were at first. However, it seems like these MiLi products like the iData Pro Smart Flash Drive and iDataCable Pro can do quite a lot for many tablets and smartphones.

The MiLi iData Pro Smart Flash Drive is made for importing photos from a smartphone or tablet. I once tried the non-pro version, and I honestly have to say that I forget how the first iData Flash Drive works. I seem to remember it coming with a Lightning connector and it is just a backup drive for your iPhone/iPad.

The MiLi iData Pro can connect with just about any device, provided it doesn’t have USB C charging, like my HTC 10. So, you got yourself a backup drive for just about any device, and the 16 GB will cost you $69.90 on the MiLi Site. It is available in silver, gold, and rose gold, and it has storage for 32 GB ($99.90), 64 GB ($129.90), 128 GB ($189.90), and 256 GB ($269.90).

The MiLi iDataCable Pro is a charging cable that has a microSD card slot inside it. That really comes in handy for when you want to store some information on a charging cable, which is something that I haven’t really tried to do, honestly.

So yes, it can charge up an iDevice, and you can store data in the card slot. This makes it easy for transfer when you truly want to. You can even use the in-App camera to save photos and other media to the card instead of the iDevice.

Just to let you know, I tried it out, and my computer didn’t recognize the cable without an SDcard inside. After that, file transfer was quite simple.

Just to let you know, it is pretty expensive at $69.99, but that is with 16 GB of storage, on a card. The model that I had to review didn’t come with a card, and I am not certain of the price of that. The price goes up to $99.90 for 32 GB, $129.90 for 64 GB, and $189.90 for 128 GB. Check it out for yourself on the MiLi site.

Well, here is another review of a MyCharge product, and these particular ones have something in common. That is, both the MyCharge PowerGear Sound and PowerGear Sport are both cases that double as chargers. Or is it the other way around?

The PowerGear Sound is made for wireless earbuds. Yes, there are a lot of wireless earbuds that are going to be hitting the market this year, and I have heard that some are out now.

I am not talking about wireless earbuds that fit in the ears and wired together in the back. I am talking about two individual earbuds, which will soon be the standard, I believe.

The PowerGear Sound could be used to power just about anything, provided it is powered by a micro-USB cord. For example, if you have a Bluetooth headset or one of those wired pair of wireless earbuds (see previous paragraph), the PowerGear Sound should be good to power it. It is also a case to keep your device in while it is charging.

The battery on the myCharge PowerGear Sound is a 1,000 mAh one, which makes it good for charging a powered device made for the ear several times. Since it is a mobile battery, it has those four indicator lights and the button to begin the charging process.

It is a pretty great device, and it can be purchased on the myCharge site for $39.99.

The PowerGear Sport, a protective case made for wearables, is this thing that looks like a pouch or a holster. It opens up, and it has a place your wearable. I am told that it is good for products like the Apple Watch and the Fitbit.

If you look at the picture on the right of the image, you might thing that it comes with some kind of inductive charger for fitness bands and smartwatches. It actually does not, but it has a USB port so it could essentially charge anything that is USB chargeable, really.

I guess this makes the PowerGear Sport a fancy battery, and that is a good thing. It has the four indicator lights as well as the button to start the charging process.

It has a capacity of 2,000 mAh, which is supposedly good enough for charging a Fitbit 50 times. Seriously, that is quite a bit, so I don’t know how that compares to smartphones and other USB powered devices.

You should be able to purchase the PowerGear Sport on the myCharge site for about $29.99 in either pink or gray.

Okay, I have been writing on Geekscape for about two months now, and I have done a lot of hands-on reviews. I hope that you have enjoyed them, and I want to take it to the next level.

In about two weeks, there will be a big event in Las Vegas that isn’t just all the usual stuff Vegas does in one night. I am talking about the Consumer Electronics Show, which is happening at the Las Vegas Conference Center, the Venetian Hotel, and many other places in Las Vegas. It officially starts January 5-8, but I am planning on arriving early on the 3rd for media events.

I have been attending CES since 2008, and I don’t want 2017 to be the first year that I have missed it since then. The reason why I want to go is more than just having a blast, but I will say that it is best way for a tech reporter like me to begin the year.

The issue is that practically every product that I have reviewed on Geekscape has been a result of meeting someone at CES, and then contacting later to receive products for review. Early January is always a time for me to be “Leaving Las Vegas” with a huge stack of business cards, and I often don’t receive product from companies for review until the following December. This is why I have been able to give two hands-on reviews per day since November.

So here is the deal. In case you have missed the last paragraph of all my articles, I simply cannot afford the trip and stay in Las Vegas. Therefore, I have started a GoFundMe site called “Send Mark (my real first name) to CES 2017”. I have explained why I need the specific amount that I need to cover a rental car, hotel stay, as well as other needs.

If you think that I am going to take this money and party in Las Vegas, then you really need to get to know me better. In all honesty, the time that I work spend at Las Vegas for CES is the hardest that I work all year.

I am also planning on doing some great stories during and after CES 2017. In addition to covering the latest in gadgets and technology, I will also want to be covering other stories like:

1) Playing Pokemon GO in Las Vegas.

2) How Las Vegas has Embraced Technology, and How Other Cities Should Follow Its Example

3) What Technology to Look for in 2017.

I also like to get to know other reporters there, and I hope to see old friends and meet some new ones.

Now it is time for me to ask for a donation, and I want to know what you want me to write about while I am in Las Vegas. Please donate, and if you don’t, then leave a comment about what you want to hear about at CES 2017.

Let’s just put it this way. Geekscape writers recently gave their Christmas Wish List, and this one is mine. Please help me make it come true.

I was very pleased to review the Jimu Robot Buzzbot and MuttBot Kit from UBTECH. There is going to be a lot of comparison made to Lego as I have written three books on them, but please keep in mind that the Jimu Robot kits are definitely their own thing.

I had a chance to make the MuttBot and Buzzbot first. On inspecting the pieces, I found that some of them looked like Lego Technic. I noticed a lot of beams with holes in them designed for connector pegs, and I understand if you might not know what I am talking about. Just so you know, the Jimu Robot parts are not compatible with anything Lego. I tried to fit them together, and the holes are smaller than that of Lego.

The box opened to reveal lots of interesting boxes in pastel colors marked with peculiar labels. The blue “Main Control Box” was set up with what I believe is the brain and heart of this, a small gray box with many ports. The “Recharging Power Adapter” was a plug-in that charged the gray box. Then I noticed the “Robotic Servo Motors” which had these motors on them that could spin, when properly powered.

The box of “Fasteners” really intrigued me as it contained wires as well as a small gray box with an on/off switch. The rest were these connector peg things that were very small and could easily get lost.

Then there were the other boxes that were full of non-technical parts. The “Character Parts” was so named because it will give the creation character. I think that is the best way to describe it. Now, the last box of “Connectors” had these parts that had these interesting slots on them for sliding parts into place, and this is what is difficult to describe.

Generally, most Lego kits come with detailed instruction booklets on how to build models. The Lego Mindstorms sets have to be downloaded as programs for your computer, but I didn’t see any option of viewing the instructions on my PC. I was able to download the app on my mobile device, and the Jimu robots app is good for Android and iOS.

I kind of wish that the instructions were available on my PC, so I could see them better. However, it was handy to have them on my touchscreen, where I could pinch to zoom and rotate the individual steps in three dimensions.

I got my son to help me, and things seemed to be going pretty smooth. We did have some problems with the connector wires, which looked like they would break easily if we unplugged them. I had to contact UBTECH to make certain that it was okay to yank them out. Needless to say, it was all right.

I also realized that we had to align the servos correctly, and they are marked to spin properly. You have to check it out for yourselves, and I like how it is marked. I also like how the servos are small motors that are smaller than what is on Lego Technic or Mindstorms.

We also had trouble on the instructions because some of the parts didn’t match exactly on the instructions. It did not affect the model or its functionality.

It took about two hours worth of work, but we had the MuttBot assembled. From there, I thought it was going to be frustrating getting it working, but it actually turned out to be quite simple. The application helped pair with my smartphone, and I was able to make the MuttBot walk and do all sorts of pre-programmed tricks.

My son also discovered that he could program the Servos so he could do all kinds of tricks. What is strange is when we programmed a servo to move, we could see it happen virtually on my mobile device.

I can see that there is a lot that we can do with these Jimu Robots, and I haven’t really discovered everything as yet. However, since this kit allows some kind of exploration, I will want to learn more.

I had my chance with the Tankbot. It is one of those robot kits where I am surprised that all the pieces that are in the kit are used, with only a few exceptions. Generally, the Lego collections allow for more than one creation. In the case of the Tankbot, what you see is the main thing that you can build, but you can build a lot with it.

Okay, I suppose that I should stop making Lego comparisons. Perhaps I can just get this other comparison out of the way and say that the Tankbot resembles a certain robot who was the star of a Pixar film. I mean, look at the colors of orange and black! I’ll spell it out for you: Tankbot is WALL-E.

The Tankbot is not able to crush garbage into little cubes, but he does have some cool tank treads. He can also reach out and grab things. My son and I tried it out and we found that he was quite adept at grabbing soda cans.

Like the Buzzbot/Muttbot, it comes with six servos, which are the small motors used to power certain things. In this case, it can operate both treads individually, which allows the Tankbot to turn on a dime with the remote control.

I have already talked about how the Jimu Robots use an Apple or Android device for Bluetooth wireless control, but there is something else that the Buzzbot/Muttbot doesn’t have. This has an infrared sensor that allows the Tankbot to pick up, detect, and maneuver objects around it. It is possible to program this, but I have to admit that I didn’t spend a lot of time doing this. My son seemed to take it on and was getting used to it in minutes.

Yes, this is one of those STEM toys that will educate kids as well as entertaining them. It is a toy that I will recommend, just like I will recommend the other models. You can get it for about $149.95.

Also, do you want to hear more about the latest in technology? In early January, there is a big event in Las Vegas known as CES (Consumer Electronics Show). This is our second M-EDGE review, and today I am review cases for tablets as well as one for the Surface Pro 4. I think I will start with the M-EDGE Sneak Shell (or Sport Case) for the Surface Pro 4.

It has the magnetic flap, and it is made of faux leather/microfiber leather. It has those tracks made to hold up the the Surface Pro 4 touchscreen at about any angle. Then you can put the keyboard down and get to work.

So, you should be able to purchase the M-EDGE Sneak Shell for the Surface Pro 4, on Amazon for $34.84.

As for the ShockDrop case made for the iPad Pro (the 12.9 inch version), it is pretty much a cover without the keyboard. It is another product that I have seen before, and it is designed so you can angle the iPad Pro at many angles.

It has a flap that magnetically closes, and then there is some things that look like tire tracks that hold the iPad at the proper angle. Seriously, I can’t think of a better way of describing it other than that.

Well, you should be able to pick up the M-EDGE Shockdrop for the iPad Pro 12.9 inch version on the M-EDGE site for…wait, I just checked, and I can’t find it on the M-EDGE site. I did find it on Staples for $49.99.

The last is the Folio Pro designed for 7-8 inch tablets. Most of you are familiar with how the folio works. It is a device that allows a tablet or even smartphone to be mounted on it, and Bluetooth makes it possible for you to type on your mobile device.

I’ve done several reviews on these devices, and how people like me, who were raised on keyboards and not touchscreens really need them. I will have to say that I found something strange with this keyboard. I found that on certain circumstances, I would get weird results. ittitt wouldldd lookkokk likeike thisis. Seriously, sometimes sections would repeat themselves for some reason.

I’m not going to say that it is not worth buying because of that. I think that part of the problem is that this keyboard is smaller than a conventional keyboard, and it was a little difficult to use. I think there might be a bit of a learning curve this this one.

You should be able to purchase the Folio Pro for 7-8 inch tablets for about $49.99 on the M-EDGE site.

This is the FINsix Dart, and I’ll go ahead and talk about its main purpose: it is the world’s smallest laptop charger.

You plug the Dart into the wall to charge it, and you have a battery that you can use to charge your laptop. I am told that it will work on 95 percent of laptops, and it has charging cord with nine interchangeable power tips. Just to let you know, that 5 percent includes the Apple MacBook and Microsoft Surface (you’ve been warned).

By the way, the Dart includes overvoltage, overcurrent, and overheating protection, in case you are worried about stuff like that. It has a 90 percent power conversion efficiency as well.

The Dart delivers 65 W of power, and it can charge a laptop just as good as the charging cord that your laptop came with. Not only is it good for charging your laptop, but it has a USB device charger with 2.1 A output. By the way, you can charge a laptop and a USB powered device at the same time.

You should be able to pick up the Dart on the FINsix site for a price of $99.99. I will have to say that it is worth it. I mean, it is light, and useful. In short, it is something that we all need, and should make a good gift this year.

We’ll be reviewing a few M-EDGE products this week, and they certainly make a lot of great accessories. I had a chance to try out two that will give you more power at the right moment, like the M-EDGE 8000 mAh Power Bank and 17-inch Bolt Backpack with Built-in Battery.

The M-EDGE 8000 mAh Power Bank is a mobile battery, which is nothing that you or I haven’t seen before. This one is designed to charge anything with a micro USB or Lightning cable. The cable tucks away in battery, and it is sufficient for charging a phone for an additional 50 hours (that’s 16 hours on most tablets).

By the way, there is an automatic energy-saving feature that shuts off the battery after 15 seconds in standby mode. It also protects the device and battery from over-charging. There is also four indicator lights which are a standard for these mobile batteries.

You can get the M-EDGE 8000 mAh Power Bank for about $29.99 on the M-EDGE site in black, lime, or brown.

Now, the Bolt Backpack for 17-inch laptops has a built-in battery. This is also a type of product that I have seen before. I’ll go ahead and start by talking about the battery.

The battery is a 6000 mAh type that fits in the backpack (in a special pocket) and can then be taken out and charged separately. The battery gives up to 40 hours of battery life for a smartphone or 10 hours on the tablet.

What is really interesting is how you can recharge your device. There is a plug-in on the strap, which makes it really convenient. Most of these charging backpacks that I have encountered have their battery in the backpack, and you have to awkwardly connect your device to it. Here, it is very simple with the Bolt.

The Bolt backpack is made for 17-inch laptops. I’m not certain what material is made of, but it sure feels smooth. I am told that there is 1075 cu of storage space, and it has two big pockets right on the front, made for accessories. The actually backpack part of the backpack (the one that holds the laptop) is cushioned.

If the M-EDGE 17 Bolt Backpack sounds like something that you might use, it can be purchased at the M-EDGE store for about $99.99.

Also, do you want to hear more about the latest in technology? In early January, there is a big event in Las Vegas known as CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Yes, we are heading into the holiday season, which will create a lot of trips to the bar, which will create the toxic by-product of drunk drivers. Every once in a while, there comes some device that can test a user’s Blood Alcohol Level, and BACtrack is well-known for them.

The BACtrack Trace Pro (or simply Trace) is a one touch operation, which is perfect for intoxicated people. You can get your results in seconds, and there is an easy-to-read display in bright LCD blue.

The user needs to blow for 5 seconds, and the response time is about 3 seconds. It has Xtend Fuel Cell Sensor technology, and six mouthpieces for optimal breath capture.

The Trace Pro is a police-grade sensor that is apparently used by the police. I realize that this sounds redundant, but if law enforcement and hospitals trust it, then a regular user can trust it too. Just to let you know, it meets the requirements for a breath alcohol screening device.

By the way, the batteries are included, so this BACtrack is really a good deal. In fact, this is one small investment that could save a lot of life, so you should check this out. Not that I am getting preachy or anything.

You should be able to purchase the BACtrack Trace Pro on the BACtrack site for about $99.99, and it is good for 1,500 tests on 2 AA batteries.

Also, do you want to hear more about the latest in technology? In early January, there is a big event in Las Vegas known as CES (Consumer Electronics Show). I am reviewing two different devices by Porter Cable, but Stanley Black and Decker Inc. own this company. I know that is confusing, and these tools have almost nearly identical names. This would be the Porter Cable 20V MAX 1/2 Inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill Driver (PCCK607LB) and the 20V Max Brushless Lithium Cordless Impact Driver Kit (PCCK647LB).

If you want a power tool with power, I will recommend the Porter Cable 20V MAX 1/2 Inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill Driver (PCCK607LB). The 20V Max 1/2-inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill has a lack of brush for that power. Yeah, I am not a power tools man.

From what I can tell, the brushless motor provides 50 percent more runtime. The motor itself has a 370 MWO of power duty with a transmission with 1,800 MAX RPM. I’m not certain how much work you can get out of a single charge, because honestly, I’m not going sit there and just press the trigger for even a few long minutes.

You should be able to purchase the Porter Cable 20V MAX 1/2 Inch Brushless Lithium Cordless Drill Driver (PCCK607LB), you can get it places like Amazon for about $149.99. The price includes two 20 V Lithium batteries, a charger, and the drill driver itself. It is quite a good holiday gift if you have someone who is really into power tools and such.

And now for the review of the Porter Cable 20V Max Brushless Lithium Cordless Impact Driver Kit PCCK647LB. Just to let you know, this is an Impact Driver, not a Drill Driver. I will readily admit that I have no idea what the difference is. Yeah, I said already in this review that I am not a tool guy, but I am learning.

For example, the brushless motor is good for 50 percent more runtime, and it comes with two great 20 V batteries. It is also good for 1,400 in-lbs of torque with 2,700 MAX RPM.

Yes, you shouldn’t have any trouble doing work with this guy. Like the last Porter Cable product, I will highly recommend it. You should be able to get it on Amazon for about $148.34.

Do me a favor and get to know Audio-Technica, because they make some very high quality audio products. I have had plenty of chances to review their audio products in the past, and I am planning on reviewing one of their headphones as well as one of their turntables.

I’ll start with the AT-LP60-BT turntable. It is wireless, thanks to the help of some Bluetooth connectivity. So if you want to hook up this Audio-Technica AT-LP60-BT to a Bluetooth speaker, you can do that with about eight different pairs of speakers, in fact. By the way, you can connect it to wired speakers if you really want to.

Then there is the ease in play. For example, you can just push a start button to play a record and then stop button to turn off the record. Wow, that has got to be the easiest way to play a record since…honestly, I don’t know what. Then again, Audio-Technica has had a lot of experience with working on record players, because they had to do something before making all of those wireless earbuds before that market existed, right?

The AT-LP60-BT has a Dual Magnet cartridge with a replaceable stylus, and it can play both 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records with an adapter. If you are wanting to play some of those old records of yours, you can get the AT-LP60-BT on the Audio-Technica site for about $149.00.

Let’s get to the ATH-ANC40BT. These QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones have a lot going for them. They are able to distract background noise up to ninety percent, and it has 13.5 mm drivers. If you have any doubt about how great the sound is, it has aptX sound-improvement technology.

The ATH-ANC40BT have a very different design to them. You might be able to tell from the picture that they are the type that fit around your neck, but the controls are at your shoulders. The microphone is able to pick up ambient noise and tune it out like a noise eraser, so I am told.

The purpose of the controls are to have in-line mic controls for operating hands-free in answering and ending calls. By the way, these particular In-Ear headphones can pair up to eight Bluetooth enabled deices, and you can shift from one device to the other. There is a detachable 3.9 foot (1.2 meter) cable for a wired connection with an 3.5 mm stereo mini-plug.

You should be able to pick up the ATH-ANC40BT QuietPoint Active Noise-Cancelling Wireless In-Ear Headphones on the Audio-Technica website for about $129.99.

Olloclip is a company known for making great lenses for smartphones, particularly iPhones. I was pretty glad to review their latest product for the iPhone 7/7 Plus with the Olloclip Core Lens Set. Most of the time, the Olloclip products are made for specific sizes of iPhones, but the Core Lens Set is made for both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus at the same time. So no matter what one you have, you can use it.

Olloclip’s latest models have been able to snap on the top of the iPhone, and then you have improved camera action for magnification or interesting effects. In this case, the Core Lens Set has a lot of lenses for it. One of them is a Super-Wide with over 120 field-of-view, and so you can capture a lot of width with your shots. Another is the Macro 15 X with 15 X magnification, and you can attach a Fisheye with a spherical effect.

What is interesting is how you can insert these lenses with a spring-loaded snap-in, and I wouldn’t be surprised if their Connect Lens system is patented. It is unique, but it is so unique that you might see it on some other product. Best of all, you can conveniently mount a lens and then flip it to the lens on the other side.

What is also convenient is how the Olloclip has a necklace mount and a clip as well. This pendant stand can be opened up and then used as a pocket-sized tripod, which is just even more cool! If you don’t believe me, check out the image above on your right!

In short, this is one of the greatest lens holders for an iPhone that there is! I don’t even know if there is even competition in this area, so Olloclip leads a very unique charge. You should be able to purchase it on the Olloclip site for $99.99.

One of the reasons why I enjoy going to CES is that you never know what kind of new device that you will encounter. It seems like someone always has a new twist on an old device, the Flip-Pal is a scanner made for a very digital age.

The Flip-Pal gives you a very portable scanner that is about the size of a book, it is powered by 4 AA batteries that are included with the product. The moment you turn it on, the small screen asks for the date, which is easily programmed in using the four arrow key buttons.

The Flip-Pal has a lid that you put down on your subject like any other scanner, and it is perfect for photo prints. For example, my mother, who has yet to embrace the digital age, sent me some photos of me, and I scanned them using the Flip-Pal. The tiny screen that I mentioned earlier showed me a perfect scan.

The best part is getting the scans to my computer was easy. The Flip-Pal comes with a 4GB SD memory card, and I was able to eject and put in my computer. If your computer doesn’t have an SD card slot, there is a USB to SD adapter included.

The Flip-Pad is so named because unlike other scanners, you can just remove the lid and scan something. Seriously, you can just get a magazine, newspaper, or any print material and just lay the Flip-Pad on it.

You can even look through the Flip-Pad and watch it as it scans. Of course, what you scans appears on the tiny screen, and the resolution is pretty good. I tried to get the best image of this as I could, so look to the right on the image above to get an idea of how it works. There is also a way to scan bigger things, with some EasyStitch software that can combine multiple scans to make a larger image.

Now I believe that the primary audience for this is scrapbookers. There is even some StoryScans software that combines the recorded voice with a scan so you can create some good memories.

If this sounds like something that you are wanting, and I might have to recommend it to everyone, it can be purchased on the Flip-Pal site for about $139.99. The first time that I saw this product, the price was ten dollars higher, so that price could be down just in time for the holidays. This is a good thing, because the Flip-Pal would make a great gift, for so many people.

Also, do you want to hear more about the latest in technology? In early January, there is a big event in Las Vegas known as CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Let’s see, how can I introduce a product known as the Boomstick? For some reason, “you primitive screw-heads” comes to mind. Yeah, making an Ash Army of Darkness reference is far too easy. Perhaps a more practical intro is necessary for the Boomstick.

To state it simply, the Boomstick has the power to take the poor sound that comes from those cheap earbuds that we all have and make it better. Now, I have seen products like this in the past, where it says that it improves it, but I don’t really hear the difference.

Fortunately, you do hear it with the use of the Boomstick. In fact, after the Boomstick is completely charged, there is a button so you can turn its functions on and off. I wish that there was a sample in front of you the reader so you could hear the difference.

I was given this product to test out at CES 2016, and I am so glad that I did. I happen to use a pair of crappy earbuds on my smartphone and laptop, and they integrated quite well. I am not certain if I wanted my ears to get spoiled by them.

If you want to see if this improves your sound for your headphones, give it a try. The Boomstick can be purchased Boomcloud 360 website for $79.00.

Considering that we are about to enter into the holiday season, this would be a good time to discuss gift ideas. If there is one thing that everyone needs, it is more juice. After all, who hasn’t run out of power on their smartphone or tablet? I have reviewed a lot of mobile batteries before, but I will have to say that the Lynktec Reeljuice Power Bank + USB Charger is one of the most unique.

As you can see from the image, there is a battery section of the Lynktec Reeljuice, and can operate independent of the other two parts if you just want to take it with you. What is great is how all these parts fit together.

The Lynktec Reeljuice has a four-foot cord that is retractable, good for charging anything that has a micro USB. Even though the retractable cord is a big enough selling point, the battery power is impressive, good enough to charge a phone about three to five times.

For those that have an Apple device, the Lynktec Reeljuice has a special Lightning connector adapter. Then there is also the attachment of a USB cable that plugs in at the bottom via micro USB. If you have an Android charging cable, it works.

It should be known that the Lynktec Reeljuice 3X costs $99.99 and the 5X is $119.99, all at the Lynktec site.

If you have ever heard of IK Multimedia, then you know that they make some very interesting products for iDevices. This particular iKlip Grip Pro is one of the most unique, as it can do a lot of functions.

The iKlip Grip Pro can hold your iPhone, and it has a Bluetooth shutter for taking pictures. This isn’t just a selfie stick, and it can extend for a really good selfie stick or just a picture of something on the back camera. By the way, it can become a tripod.

Confused yet? I’ll go into the four accessories/features one at a time. You can see that there is a grip that is ergonomic, and you can attach a Bluetooth smartphone shutter remote with a click. This allows you to put your iPhone on a stick.

So how do you mount your iPhone on this thing? Well, you need to use this thing that allows you to screw it on with a spring-loaded clip. I am told that this will hold any type of iPhone, but could it hold any other type of smartphone? Seriously, I don’t know, and am not certain if you can get the Bluetooth shutter to sync with an iDevice, as I could not find the app on Google Play.

Once your iPhone is mounted, you can take photos and videos, and, as you can see, in this photo to the left, you can extend this thing up to 62 centimeters for a super selfie stick. It locks in place, and you can also pivot the iPhone at the end of the stick in a 90 degree angle adjustment with 360 degree rotation capability.

By the way, this is a good time to talk about how it can not only hold the iPhone spring-loaded clip, it has that standard mounting system for connecting GoPro or other small mobile video cameras, not to mention other cameras as well.

Okay, now it is time to discuss its next ability. That particular ergonomic stick can actually fold out into three places, which makes it into a tripod.

So, if you want to take some pictures of yourself (or something else), you can use this tripod to get the perfect shot. The only problem is that it took me a while to figure out how to get that tripod to separate. Seriously, it requires extending the selfie stick completely, and then you can spread the legs apart. You know, I cannot stand how that sounds, and I’m just going to forget about it.

Anyway, if you want to get in on this cool tool, then you can head to the IK Multimedia site and lay down $59.99 for the iKlip Grip Pro.

Okay, I am going to conclude this current trilogy that I am on. The one will end with another laptop backpack, as it will discuss the Drifter Energy backpack for 15-inch backpacks.

So it is a laptop backpack, big deal, right? Well, it is has a smart Joey energy supply that is integrated with it so you can charge a smartphone or tablet. What is funny is that it took me a while to find the power source, but it is in the bag. Get it? Because the battery is in the bag? Yeah, you’d have to be there.

Yes, the battery is deep in the backpack, and on a little hook to take it out. Now, you need to connect a cord to battery pack to charge it, and then use another cord to charge your smartphone and tablet. That is good enough for 15-20 hours of talk time, and give your tablet some extra power as well (it’s less).

So not only is there some great spot for your 15-inch laptop, there is a lot of great pockets. There’s like three of them, and then on the inside, there is some serious levels of pocket in this guy. Seriously, I love having pockets that are really overdoing it on the pocket. I got a pair of shorts that have at least five levels of pocket in them, and man, you can really lose your stuff in them. Come to think of it, maybe that is not necessarily a good thing.

The Drifter Energy for 15-inch laptops is available in camo, graphite, and navy for about $239.95 on the STM Bag sites.
