Briefly: The anticipated release of David Twohy’s Riddick is fast approaching, and at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Universal Studios unveiled an awesome new motion comic that bridged the gap between 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick and its upcoming sequel.

Universal has just released the motion comic online, and as expected, it’s pretty damn cool. The video clocks in at just over five minutes, and if you have any interest in seeing Riddick when it launches on September 6th, you’re definitely going to want to watch this first.

Watch the Riddick motion comic, titled ‘Blindsided’ below, and let us know if you’re excited!

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy

Briefly: During this year’s Comic-Con, Universal Pictures released a bloody new trailer for David Twohy’s Riddick.

The new preview features much of what we’ve already seen, just… bloodier and a little more violent. Same opening, same mercenaries, same ol’ Vin Diesel; don’t get me wrong, it’s an awesome trailer for what looks to be an awesome film, but I was hoping for a little more new footage than what we saw.

Take a look at the new trailer below, and let us know what you think! Riddick opens on September 6th!

Seeing as Riddick is just seven months away from release, it shouldn’t be long before we see some actual footage from the film.

Until then, the slew of still images from the project continue to roll in, the latest coming yesterday via Diesel’s Facebook page. Check the image out below, and let us know what you think! Riddick hits theatres on September 6th.

Writer/Director David Twohy gave us a few interesting Riddick tidbits today, including a first look at the new logo! Sounds like post is going well, but it also sounds pretty tough! Here’s what he had to say:

Feels like I’m back in production!

Been pulling 14-hour days trying to finish RIDDICK.  My typical day starts at 9am with intensive visual effects meetings, sweating out the details of our 900 VFX shots.  Then I jet across town to the mix stage, Soundelux, where I supervise the sound, balancing out the often-competing elements of music, sound fx, sound design, and dialog.  At night I hit the lab, Technicolor in Hollywood, staying until midnight to do “DI work” — color-correction of the movie.  This is where David Eggby and I have one last chance to get the images right, dropping in grads and power windows to finesse what we shot on set.  It’s a great tool, the Digital Intermediate.  Kind of like Photoshop for movies.  Gotta love it.  Gotta love the challenge of bringing it all home.

Those days sound RIDDICKulous! Twohy also gave us a look at the logo for the new film, which at this point also looks like an early version:

I can’t wait to see a trailer for this one (also a release date would be nice). How about you?

The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000′s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.
