Producer Matt is back in the teacher role to educate us on one of the founding members of National Lampoon; Doug Kinney. Doug took the Harvard Lampoon and transformed it into the National Lampoon. From there he basically found all the talent that became the original cast of SNL and cowrote Animal House and Caddyshack!

What is the best depiction of the North Pole in pop culture? There’s been so many of so many different styles we’ve seen be it lonely isolation, full blown cities or weird castles in the sky. But which one is the best?!

Shockingly, this is but one of 4 screen adaptions of Bram Stoker’s “The Jewel of Seven Stars.” We’re guessing this is the best one because it stars two-time Bond Girl Valerie Leon!

Beyond a few low charting cover songs, however, they quickly fell out of the public consciousness. This week we go back to the decade defining sounds of the 60’s that became the soundtrack to the controversial Vietnam war. We analyze some of the greatest songs from 1966 until 1970 that captured the mood of that period of time.

It’s impressive that Dylan didn’t pull something with this stretch but since a New Scream Movie came out and the first Scream was released in December of 1996 … he’s decided that counts enough for us to discuss this horror film with zero Christmas themes on our Christmas podcast.

There’s a saying we like to keep going around the HMN offices – “It’s Mummy’s Day somewhere.” In the spirit of Mummy’s Day, we invited our good friend Nate Lopez from 91 Donkey Lane to discuss the Lovecraft/King monster mash that is IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS (1994). We put on our bookreadin’ glasses and crack the covers of some Sutter Cane best-sellers to bring the apocalyptic giggles and maybe a wall of tentacle monsters. Side note, how do you get sharpie crosses off your skin? Asking for an insurance investigator friend…

1994 was a landmark year for both music and film. Somewhere in that whirlwind of Dookie and the Shawshank Redemption, the Downward Spiral and Forrest Gump, and The Blue Album and Pulp Fiction was LUCAS. No, not the 1986 Corey Haim movie…we’re talking about the Danish rapper Lucas, and his single “Lucas With The Lid Off”. The song was in regular rotation on MTV, thanks partly to a Michel Gondry directed music video. This week, Tony Hartman returns to the show to discuss this jazz rap / electro swing jam. Our first episode of 2022 is the 1990 straight-to-video PLEDGE NIGHT, a comedy-cum-supernatural slasher written and directed by a porn director, starring people who can’t act and featuring yet another Freddy clone killer apparition, but at least it’s set in the wintertime, which is the correct season for the actual Hell Week shenanigans we still somehow let happen every year at colleges across the US. Now clean up the mess we just made, pledgie!
