It’s our 350th episode and lookee who decided to stop by – our long lost cohost Brian! We knew we had to discuss something he’d seen a million times so he couldn’t weasel out of it by saying he didn’t have time to watch the movie, thus we went with the oiled-sax-playing, beach party-crashing, Frog Brothers-filled THE LOST BOYS (1987). You know it, you love it, so do we, so let’s get that nostalgia pumping through our delicious veins on this momentous 7-year anniversary spectacular episode of Horror Movie Night!

This week, we’re joined by my good friend Joey Ritter to discuss Martika, a Kids Incorporated success story who scored a #1 hit with her heavy single “Toy Soldiers”. The song serves as a vague cautionary tale about the dangers of cocaine addiction, but it’s hard to interpret how Martika herself factors into the equation. Is she the voice of reason, or was she at any point the voice encouraging a friend to enjoy another key bump? We’d assume she was the sensible one, but one viewing of her INTENSE dancing in some other music videos left us asking questions. Step by step, heart to heart, left right left, we all fall down…into another great episode of One Hit Thunder!

We are celebrating the action movie career of Bruce Willis on Episode 65 of The Bulletproof Podcast as your hosts Chris the Brain and Chad Cruise are joined by the returning Todd Gaines as they countdown Bruce Willis’ Top 10 Action Movies as voted on by the fans of The Bulletproof Podcast! Does this countdown have the least surprising #1 movie in any countdown show we have done? Is Hudson Hawk to action movies what Halloween III is to horror movies? Plus, the guys give out some Bruce Willis honorable mentions that didn’t make the cut and RTG provides a James Brown update!

Today Producer Matt is in the hot seat to discuss the 1967 Mini-Series The Prisoner which he discovered through a random TV special in the 90s. After watching it in College it’s become one of his favorite shows and he truly believes it’s one of the most influential shows of all time. Can he convince Gelsey to watch it?

When Dylan suggested we discuss The Green Knight I really thought he was pulling another Scream on us but turns out that this movie is FULL of Christmas imagery. Definitely watch the film if you get a chance before listening!

This week on the podcast we discuss I Love Rocky Road. This was the song that got Al his record contract. It became a quick classic on MTV and was one of the early minor hits for Al before he truly exploded a few years later!

What’s scarier than late 90s fashion? Late 90s fashion but with a side of lukewarm blasphemous imagery! Kyle is taking us higher this week with his 7th grade Livejournal favorite film of all time, STIGMATA (1999) and while the watch was painful, the conversation is heavenly. We’re sorry Sky Daddy, we’ve been very naughty this week on Horror Movie Night…

Today, we are joined by WYEP DJ Joey Spehar to discuss a band that feels crazy to call a one hit wonder – The Grateful Dead. Not even a legitimate Deadhead like Joey can deny, however, that 1987’s “Touch of Grey” was the iconic band’s only charting hit. Like a Ken Kesey house party, this episode is fun, educational, and maybe a little weird. Will Joey convince us all to rush out and get a dancing bear tattoo? Light some incense, grab your hacky sack, and stay tuned to find out.

If horror movies are to be believed (and why shouldn’t they be), every sleepy seaside town harbors a dark secret. Sometimes it’s a haunted house, sometimes it’s a lunatic in a creepy mask, but SOMEtimes it’s a 100 year old curse placed by murdered lepers. In that case, you gotta watch out for THE FOG (1980), a John Carpenter classic that shocked 2 of the 3 hosts of this show in how many years it took for one of us to pick it. Come with us as we ponder the low body count and what a stomach pounder is this week on Horror Movie Night!

The song “How Bizarre” from New Zealand’s OMC was first released in 1995, but it wasn’t until 1997 that it made its mark on the US Billboard charts. This hard-to-classify hit tends to be very polarizing among listeners. The strange mashup of musical styles, the unique vocal delivery, and the incomplete lyrical story leaves some listeners delighted and other listeners downright annoyed. This week, we’re joined by Dustin Rubin of the Two Dollar Late Fee podcast to decide if we WANT to buy the rights to the rest of OMC’s story.

Do you wanna see the galaxy? Well too bad, we’re an audio-based show! What we CAN offer is a rambling voyage to Klendathu as we duke it out over STARSHIP TROOPERS (1997). The tangents are definitely going to, um, bug some folks but you probably know by now that we just can’t help ourselves. Would you like to know more? We would do LOTS of cool things if we were rich. One of those things would be to give the whole world a free subscription to the One Hit Thunder Patreon. Unfortunately, we’re not able to do that yet, but we DID let our Patreon supporters vote on which song they wanted to hear us discuss. They chose Calloway’s “I Wanna Be Rich”, which SOMEHOW producer Matt Kelly had never heard before. We discuss it all this episode, including what rock Baby Matt was living under to not know this joyous 1989 hit. Stay tuned for a little love, peace, and happiness!

This week on Horror Movie Night, the discussion on Snakes on a Plane continues, and as usual, Gelsey picked a bad movie that Dylan enjoyed and Chris had mixed feelings on. We discuss the soundtrack as well as how we’d handle being on a “snakes on a plane” scenario.

BBMak had it all…good looks, great harmonies, relatable lyrics, and a smash hit single with “Back Here”. Despite the trio’s massive success in 1999, they broke up shortly after the release of their second album a few years later. It took them over 15 years to finally reunite, but did the world miss them, want them, need them so? We’re joined once again by comedian and Between Awesome and Disaster podcast host Will Carey to decide if BBMak are the ones we can’t let go, or if we were lucky to be set free from the misery.

Pogoing to new wave music in clubs is a god-given right, and no one knows this better than Men Without Hats frontman Ivan Doroschuck. He got his revenge on the bouncers that tried to keep his feet on the ground by writing “The Safety Dance”, a song that truly defined the mood of the early 80s. Was it the infectious melodies and massive synths that took the song to great heights, or could it POSSIBLY be for another reason (that we’ve LINED UP in this episode)? We’re joined by podcaster and musician Ryan Stick to take a deep dive into Montreal’s favorite synth pop act.
