This week, we’re joined by Horror Movie Night co-host Kyle Kuchta to discuss Orgy, an industrial nu metal band that rose to fame thanks to a questionable cover of New Order’s 1983 classic “Blue Monday”. Was Kyle right to ask his parents for an Orgy poster for Christmas, or did his middle school newspaper make the right call in simply referring to them as “the opening band” on the 1998 Family Values Tour? Stay tuned to see how WE feel.

There’s a good chance that if someone mentioned the song “But It’s Alright” by J.J. Jackson, you would say “uh…how does that one go?”. The second you heard the iconic opening guitar riff, however, you’d undoubtedly say “Oh, OF COURSE I know this one!” This week, we’re joined by A.J. Santini to discuss this soulful 60s belter, and try to figure out why this big guy (285 pounds, to be exact, as made clear in the liner notes of his record) isn’t a bigger name.

This week we watch the first Friends Christmas special for no other reason than Matt is in the middle of a Friends binge. Additionally … it’s basically a New Years Eve episode.

If you miss the bad old days of painful listener submission episodes, you’re in luck because we watched an absolutely terrible movie that sort of has a werewolf in it for a minute or 2 but is mostly about honky tonk and the most somber line-dancing you’ve ever seen. We subjected ourselves to another Howling entry, this time THE HOWLING: NEW MOON RISING (1995), in which the director/lead actor of the last 2 tries desperately to connect the entire series into a cohesive timeline. Did he succeed? Perhaps, but at what cost? Our sanity hangs by a thread on this week’s show!

Being that Matthew Milligan is currently our most frequent guest, we tend to give him a little more leeway with his song choices. That being said, he chose Kid Sister and her minor 2008 hit “Pro Nails”. Prior to this episode, neither producer Matt Kelly nor myself had ever heard this song from the Chicago based artist, which is surprising because it features Kanye West during a very prolific era of his career. But hey, this is what One Hit Thunder is all about: discovering music we may have missed otherwise. So get your toes done up with your fingernails matchin’, and join us for a deep dive into Kid Sister.

Imagine you’re an Italian filmmaker in the 80s. You’ve got 10k to make a sci-fi movie and you aim for Aliens… and then get sidetracked by ripping off Terminator… and your entire cast and crew have never even done a table read. No need to imagine, because that’s basically what you get when you watch SHOCKING DARK, aka Terminator 2 (1989)! We finally caved after years of putting off this listener pick and can confirm, yup it’s a movie. We have more questions now than when we turned it on and no expectation of ever having them answered. Let’s be confused together.

This week on the podcast to celebrate 25 Years of South Park we decided to revisit another classic South Park Christmas episode with Season 2’s episode “Merry Christmas Charles Manson”

Ah, the classic story: boy meets immortal brain-eating slug, boy loves the feel of blue juice injected into his grey matter, boy’s life falls apart and his head explodes. If you haven’t guessed, we’re kicking off Listener Submitted Month with Frank Henenlotter’s BRAIN DAMAGE (1988)! It may come as a shock to you, but this movie is a metaphor for drug addiction… Mind-blowing.

In the early 90s, London-based producer Geoff Wilkinson was given full access to legendary jazz label Blue Note Records’ entire discography to use samples in his project Us3. The resulting album Hand On The Torch mixed modern hip-hop with classic jazz, and on the heels of the first single “Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia)”, the record quickly ascended to the top 10 on the Billboard charts. Today on the show, we dive into the rest of Us3’s music to decide if there should’ve been a few more biddy-biddy bops in the mainstream, or if this project was just too funky funky to enjoy more success.

This week we are joined by Punchline Manager Jim Logrando to discuss Al’s Police Parody King of Suede. Beyond discussing our feelings on The Police and the song King of Pain; Jim raises the bar on future guests by providing some letters from the close personal friends of Weird Al fan club AND a once in a lifetime artifact from his childhood.

If there’s one constant in this life, it’s Matt Kelly’s love for Emily Perkins, and this week he’s taking us to visit her as she gets off the sauce in GINGER SNAPS 2: UNLEASHED (2004). Ever wondered what Girl, Interrupted would be like if the girl was slowly becoming a werewolf? Well wonder no more, because that’s sort of what we’ve got going on here. Also, check out Matt’s clever Disney+ connection to this film, he truly outdid himself on this week’s episode of Horror Movie Night!

This week, we dive into the band James and their somewhat raunchy 90s hit “Laid”. Return guest Tony Hartman joins us to dissect the lyrics that he sang as a kid in front of his mom, long before he knew what any of them meant. Did we uncover a deeper SECRET meaning to the words, or are they nothing more than American Pie soundtrack fodder? Stay tuned to find out if our beds are on fire for James, or if we think they should be laid to rest.

Some questions will forever remain unanswered, like why idiots in northern states fly the Confederate flag in 2022, or why 2001 MANIACS (2005) wasn’t released 4 years earlier and why Kyle punished his cohosts with this pick. Not even Robert Englund himself can save this Sherman’s March of a flick, nor the gratuitous amount of nudity on display… It’s just a whole lotta ick for your hosts this week, but we have a sinking feeling that the pain is what keeps you listening.
