I am most definitely a sucker for all songs that have an associated dance. I know this is an audio-only podcast, but I can say FOR SURE say that you’d all have enjoyed watching One Hit Thunder producer Matt Kelly “walk the dinosaur” when we recorded this episode. We recorded this one as another episode of our “Ya Snooze, Ya Lose” category, since we’re pushing 150 episodes and no one has chosen it yet. We expected to have a funny conversation about a goofy dance song from the late 80s. What we DIDN’T expect was just how crazy of a career the guys in Was (Not Was) have had. Sometimes all it takes for the nerdy guy to become the cool guy is a killer car. Get it? A KILLER CAR?? What we’re trying to say here is that John Carpenter’s adaption of Stephen King’s book CHRISTINE (1980) is about a murderous automobile. While relatively bloodless (in true King adaption fashion), this one rules and is arguably one of the best big screen King movies as well as a damn fine entry into Carpenter’s filmography. We’re all compliments this week – get your chrome polished on another episode of Horror Movie Night!

Bookending last week’s exploitative tongue-twister pick, we’re heading to the lanes with another mouthful: SORORITY BABES IN THE SLIMEBALL BOWL-O-RAMA (1988). This movie features a lot of nudity, a possibly offensive goblin, a fully-clothed Linnea Quigley and basically no plot to speak of… so we had our work cut out for us. We may have wasted our wishes on a cohesive discussion, let’s see what Uncle Impie has in store for us all.

Since the B-52s recently announced their final tour we figured it made sense for Gelsey to talk about one of her absolute favorite bands. Some people will incorrectly call the group a one hit wonder but beyond countless hits like Private Idaho, Roam and Rock Lobster their unique style and influence is far stretching.

Since Season 4 of Stranger Things has taken the world by storm we decided that it’s time to discuss the Christmas-y aspects of Season 1, our thoughts on season 4 and the animated Charlie Brown/Stranger Things mash-up A Stranger Things Christmas

Today we discuss Strange New Worlds Episode 1 with planetary physicist Kevin Grazier, and explore the mechanisms of warp drive, and the possibilities of using warp signatures to make a warp bomb. Spoilers Ahead.

In one of Al’s strangest songs he blends the sounds of Reggae with niche Yuppie culture. While it’s funny we can’t help but debate if the satire still comes off as appropriation.

We watched the Emerald Isle export GRABBERS (2012) as it’s finally a decade old and the perfect vintage for the show. Thrill to people fighting imaginary enemies, questionable CGI and of course Scott’s terrible brogue on another episode of Horror Movie Night!

It’s mind-boggling how many guests have passed on the opportunity to talk about City High’s catchy-yet-serious 1999 jam “What Would You Do?”, so Matt and I had no choice but to institute a new “Ya Snooze, Ya Lose” category of One Hit Thunder episodes and do this one ourselves. We can’t even imagine who WOULDN’T want to discuss this highly danceable song about having to do whatever it takes to feed your child, which also inexplicably breaks into Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” halfway through. In 1984; Al had every intention of this original to be the lead single off In 3-D. Instead he released the parody Eat It. We discuss how we feel about this original and if we think this could have worked as a single!

After all these years, we may finally be scraping the bottom of the proverbial chum bucket for Jaws ripoffs because Matt subjected us to a truly terrible one: 1979’s Corman creature feature UP FROM THE DEPTHS. Written, acted, directed AND edited as comedy, it was re-cut afterwards to lean into the horror, leaving us with a mess of a movie, but we manage to keep our heads above water and catch a great discussion in the process. Surf’s up!

25 Years ago the last Jaws film was released … a film about shark attacks … in December.
