Bookending last week’s exploitative tongue-twister pick, we’re heading to the lanes with another mouthful: SORORITY BABES IN THE SLIMEBALL BOWL-O-RAMA (1988). This movie features a lot of nudity, a possibly offensive goblin, a fully-clothed Linnea Quigley and basically no plot to speak of… so we had our work cut out for us. We may have wasted our wishes on a cohesive discussion, let’s see what Uncle Impie has in store for us all.

Why is it that every time you turn on an episode of One Hit Thunder, you gotta listen to me do some intro where I try to be clever? Man, FUNK DAT! Just get to the episode! That’s what we’re about to do, as Matt and I dive into the career of Baltimore’s premiere grievance poet, Sagat.

In one of Al’s strangest songs he blends the sounds of Reggae with niche Yuppie culture. While it’s funny we can’t help but debate if the satire still comes off as appropriation.

The world needs more masc Mary Sues in film and Kyle is on a mission to bring this very specific trope into the public eye with his pick of the insane BUTCHER BAKER NIGHTMARE MAKER (1981). Also known as NIGHT WARNING, the creators obviously had no grasp of how to title a movie, but nevertheless this one has a ton of social commentary to delve into beyond being total camp, delighting all three of your hosts. Chug some milk, your weird aunt needs you at full strength this week on Horror Movie Night!

My good friend and musical collaborator Paul Menotiades always brings the heat with his song choices. Paul joins the four-timer club this week, and he follows up episodes about Harvey Danger, EMF, and the Dead Milkmen with yet ANOTHER classic banger in “I Love You More Today Than Yesterday” by Spiral Starecase. This enduring love anthem appeared on the band’s one and only album before their breakup, but did the rest of the album bring the thunder as much as this one did? Stay tuned to find out.

Did you cry? Because Dylan and Matt definitely did while listening to “His Favorite Christmas Story” by the band Capital Lights … basically the pop punk Christmas Shoes. This episode is sure to be an instant classic for you.

This week we are talking about Al’s parody of Men At Work’s “Safety Dance” which one of your hosts thinks is a contender for one of the worst Al parodies of all time. Is he over-reacting or is this anti-Brady Bunch song truly the bottom of the barrel for Al?

If you’re anything like Scott, you will watch pretty much any movie featuring heavy Irish accents, and if so, this week’s pick is just for you! We watched the Emerald Isle export GRABBERS (2012) as it’s finally a decade old and the perfect vintage for the show. Thrill to people fighting imaginary enemies, questionable CGI and of course Scott’s terrible brogue on another episode of Horror Movie Night!

It’s mind-boggling how many guests have passed on the opportunity to talk about City High’s catchy-yet-serious 1999 jam “What Would You Do?”, so Matt and I had no choice but to institute a new “Ya Snooze, Ya Lose” category of One Hit Thunder episodes and do this one ourselves. We can’t even imagine who WOULDN’T want to discuss this highly danceable song about having to do whatever it takes to feed your child, which also inexplicably breaks into Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” halfway through. What would WE do without this catchy yet lyrically-heavy hit? Stay tuned to find out.

Chris the Brain and Chad Cruise are joined by Austin Trunick, the author of The Cannon Film Guide, to countdown Chuck Norris’ Top 10 Cannon Films. From 1984’s Missing in Action to 1994’s Hellbound and everything in between… Chuck’s decade with Cannon is celebrated and his films ranked, plus plenty of trivia courtesy of Austin Trunick and his extensive knowledge of Cannon.

Whenever there’s something loosely tied to Christmas AND NEW we have to make sure we discuss it! Netflix dropped the new show Dead End Paranormal Park earlier this summer since one episode was called the Nightmare Before Christmas in July we decided to give it a watch!

After all these years, we may finally be scraping the bottom of the proverbial chum bucket for Jaws ripoffs because Matt subjected us to a truly terrible one: 1979’s Corman creature feature UP FROM THE DEPTHS. Written, acted, directed AND edited as comedy, it was re-cut afterwards to lean into the horror, leaving us with a mess of a movie, but we manage to keep our heads above water and catch a great discussion in the process. Surf’s up!

Return guest Johnny Yetsconish has an impressive track record of choosing the very best sad songs to discuss on One Hit Thunder. He keeps his streak alive this week by picking “Nobody Knows” by The Tony Rich Project. This relatable R&B jam took over the airwaves in 1996, but Tony quickly faded away from the mainstream soon after. Did we figure out why, or does nobody know it but him? Stay tuned to find out.

25 Years ago the last Jaws film was released … a film about shark attacks … in December.

Between the heavy amount of Christmas in this movie AND the fact that Shark Week is just around the corner it felt like an obvious time to talk about a film widely considered one of the worst ever made.

After the last 2 episodes, we’ve decided that the great outdoors are too scary, so we holed up inside with BRAINSCAN (1994)! If you’ve been dying to watch Edward Furlong shuffle along like a bozo as Great Value Freddy Krueger cracks awful jokes, then you’re in luck because that’s pretty much the whole movie. Oh and Primus.

Our Patreon really swung for the fences by choosing K7’s 1993 hit “Come Baby Come” as the song we’re diving into this week. Did you know that K7 was just one guy, and not the name of the group of four men who seem to be featured in every music video? Neither did we. And in this episode, we REALLY try to determine if this song is about beckoning a woman to come closer, OR if it really IS just about bodily fluids. Stay tuned to find out if we slam the door on K7, or if he made us “come baby come baby baby come come” back for more.

It may not have been our initial plan, but what better movie to discuss on our Independence Day special than 1996’s Independence Day. Directed by Roland Emmerich and starring an all-star cast that included Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman to name a few… Independence Day was a visual masterpiece and raised the bar for summer blockbusters forever! Join Chris the Brain and Chad Cruise as they do a deep dive on Independence Day… plus, Chad offers up his solution for fighting the alien invaders, Chris mentions “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes three times and is this the least sad sack Judd Hirsch ever was?

We have our first ever guest and not only does he love Al… he’s met him! Welcome Dustin Rubin of the Two Dollar Late Fee podcast to the show!! This episode was recorded as part of a fundraiser to help Matt’s high school friend Meg. We look at a B-side recorded for (but cut from) the self titled album before we dive into the heavy hitter than is In 3-D next week!

In 1993, the band Green Jellÿ had an unlikely Top 20 hit with their song “Three Little Pigs”, which was a twisted, rockin’ version of a story that we’re all familiar with from childhood. A crudely animated yet unforgettable music video helped launch this song into the stratosphere, and it has remained lodged in many of our brains for 30 years now. This week, we’re joined by Another Cheetah guitarist Matt Jurcevich to discuss whether we should all let Green Jellÿ in, or if we need to call Rambo to take care of this wild one hit wonder.

The second season of “Only Murders in the Building” is out now and to celebrate we are looking back on the early part of Steve Martin’s career specifically the 1970’s and into the early 80s! Beyond trailblazing a unique anti-comedy aesthetic, he also juggled between slapstick comedy and heartfelt drama throughout his career.

It’s Dylan’s pick so you know it’s gonna get spooky today and it does with the super short episode of Love, Death and Robots … All Through the House
