Are all horror sequels drained of logic, like the blood of each batch of dumb teens hanging from the pointy end of a killer’s weapon of choice? Is it made more palatable if said sequel looks directly into the camera and says, “we get it, but also know what you want and we’re here to give you your fix, you little freak”? These are the kinds of questions we ask ourselves as we head to college with Sidney Prescott in SCREAM 2 (1997) as she tries to outrun her past by choosing the least likely major for someone who hates the spotlight: theater! Does it still hold up to Matt’s high expectations, or is will it be hazed to death by it’s fraternity brothers? Find out on this week’s episode of Horror Movie Night!

If you reflect on the joyous music that graced the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 2015, it would be hard to believe that people were engaged in activities beyond falling in love and relishing a warm breeze. No song illustrated this point more vividly than OMI’s “Cheerleader,” a whimsical tropical tune that soared to the coveted #1 spot on the charts. However, the question remains: why didn’t the US clamor for more of OMI, considering he undeniably had songs worthy of being soundtracks to fireworks and hula hoop sessions? This week, we’re joined by Tony Hartman to explore whether we can consider ourselves as cheerleaders for OMI’s career.

We’ve referenced author Lily Hirsch’s booked Weird Al Seriously quite a few times on the show so we were beyond thrilled to have the author on the podcast to discuss Al’s take on Gerardo’s “Rico Suave”. We discuss how sometimes Al’s parodies help us fix a song that’s lyrics can be off putting and Taco Grande is a great early example of that!

We kick off the new year with the oldest movie we’ve ever covered thanks to Kyle. You may be shocked by this pick, usually old black and white movies are exclusively reserved for the Kelly brothers but we’re sure Kyle had a reason to pick this one! If nothing else we get interesting performances from Universal legends Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi when we discuss THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN!

Blending influences from around the globe, Pittsburgh’s own Rusted Root made their mark on music history with their unforgettable 1992 hit, “Send Me On My Way”. This joyous tune only hit #72 on the Billboard Hot 100, but the song’s prominence in movies, TV, and commercials has eclipsed its initial chart performance. This week, we’ll dive further into the story and back catalog of Rusted Root to decide if we’d like to hold their little hand or tell them to run.

Holy 1960s cultural commentary, we tallied the votes from our annual Black Friday listener poll and watched BATMAN: THE MOVIE (1966) as our last movie of the year. It’s a solid little time capsule to when the campy caped crusader was at the top of his spandex-y game but it definitely takes a specific palate to truly enjoy this one in modern times. Not saying that all Batman content needs to be a ultra-gloomy as Bale’s or Pattinson’s portrayals, but there’s a lotta slapstick to wade through here… Join us for our final discussion of 2023 or else the puns and rhyming will never stop.

You might not know the name Baltimora, but you have almost certainly encountered the anthemic “Tarzan Boy” in unexpected places. From iconic Listerine commercials to grand wrestling entrances, this unforgettable 80s song continues to live on decades after this Italian music project burst onto the scene. This week, we’re joined by Jim Logrando to unravel the mystery of who actually sang the song, the fascinating concept of the “millennial whoop”, and the biggest question of all: is there any need to swing further into the jungle of Baltimora’s back catalog? Stay tuned to find out.

It’s been a long year of HMN naughtiness, so in order to get back in Santa’s good favor and still get some sweet holiday loot in our stocking, we’re taking one for the team and watching an utterly stupid Christmas movie that was shot on video, starring the writer/director, his kids and the worst alien stick props you’ve ever seen. If you haven’t guessed already, we’re talking FEEDERS 2: SLAY BELLS (1998), the completely inane sequel to the Blockbuster-approved direct-to-video “hit” FEEDERS (1996). This might be the worst thing we’ve ever watched on the show (don’t listen to Matt’s opinion, he’s crazy), so you better appreciate the pain we went through for this one. Happy holidays from everyone at Horror Movie Night!

In celebration of our 200th episode, we’re revisiting our lost first episode and giving “Barbie Girl” another chance on One Hit Thunder. The resounding popularity of Aqua and their iconic song has experienced a second life, thanks to a resurgence in the wake of the unbelievably popular Barbie movie. As fate would have it, one of us is an Aqua superfan, and it’s high time for us to dive back into the discography and cultural impact of Denmark’s biggest musical export. Join us as we explore the infectious beats, quirky lyrics, and unexpected twists in Aqua’s musical journey.

It’s almost Christmas, so what better way to celebrate than to take a puddlejumper to a remote, deserted island AirBnB with your overbearing husband, overbearing brother and his overbearing wife? Absolutely NOTHING bad could happen in this scenario! Yup, definitely not foreshadowed by a solid harbinger (also the guy who flew you to the island and gave you the chance to leave not once, but twice) or the overall creepy atmosphere of the place… I guess sometimes we can’t escape our destiny, especially when said destiny is being torn apart by a horrific monster dripping in bloody pus like the protagonist in THE SLAYER (1982). Get in the holiday spirit with the HMN elves this week on Horror Movie Night!

As we conclude another year of podcasting we look back at the songs past and try to determine the ranking from worst to best. In the past this was done by Chris and Matt and a guest … this year we did it as a livestream event featuring 5 guests!!

We were joined by Podcast fan favorites Matt DiStefano, PJ Caruso, Jim Logrando, Joey Ritter and Johnny Yetsconish

You can watch the extended livestream version of this episode with the link below!

It’s the mid-90s on a chilly Friday night and your mom brandishes a familiar blue-and-yellow VHS case at you as the frozen pizza cooks in the oven. Did she rent Predator like you’ve been begging her to do for a month? Well no, she explains, they were out of Predator, but they did have the next best thing: WATCHERS 3 (1994)! Pop that bad boy into the VCR and see just how bad fighting a rubber suit monster in the jungle on a shoestring budget can look because dammit, Momma tried.

Hey now, hey now, One Hit Thunder’s back! This week, we’re stepping back in time to explore the fascinating story behind one of the early ’60s most beloved hits. A group of talented teenagers from New Jersey, The Angels, joined forces with three brilliant songwriters to craft “My Boyfriend’s Back”, a timeless classic that was inspired by a real-life incident. This iconic song not only left an undeniable mark on the era but continues to resonate with audiences today. We don’t often dive into the tunes of the late ’50s and early ’60s, but thanks to Patreon’s request, we couldn’t resist this opportunity to uncover the story behind The Angels’ legendary single. Stay tuned for a journey into music history that promises to be absolutely trouble-free!

When we look back at the questionable films Kyle has subjected us to (there are a lot), this week’s may come close to the top of the list for its suuuuuuper rough first 5 minutes, followed by another rough 80 minutes of insufferable people walking around an island taking trash on each other. HUMONGOUS (1982) is a real big flop of a movie with a great poster. The unlikable (talentless) cast does eventually get offed by a barely-seen mutant man-child, but at what cost to our sanity? Find out this week on Horror Movie Night!
