Hey remember when zombie movies were all we talked about and watched? How about 20-odd years earlier when horror was ruled by Italian zombie movies? Or how about the Italian zombie movie with no plot but an adult dwarf playing a young boy who gropes his own mother before getting zombified and eating her, um, chest? If you didn’t know, now you know, it’s time to discuss none other than the infamous BURIAL GROUND (1981) and at least we can say there are still things that can make us blush. Grab a big glass of warm milk, kick your feet up and watch everyone you love (and some you probably don’t like that much too) get devoured this week on Horror Movie Night!

In 1993, the world was introduced to a white Canadian reggae artist named Snow. His hit song “Informer” topped the US Billboard charts for nearly two months straight, while Snow himself sat in a prison cell for maybe or maybe not puncturing another human being with a knife (aka stabbing them). This semi-autobiographical tune echoed a warning to whoever snitched on him, in the form of being “licky boom boomed down” by the artist himself. Are we risking this fate ourselves by discussing Snow this week, or is the assault on our eardrums punishment enough? Stay tuned to find out!

We begin our deep dive into the new Christmas Properties from 2022 with the first 2 Episodes of Disney+’s The Santa Clauses. I wish we were starting on something we liked a little more but this was probably the lowest point of the 2022 season.

As is tradition, our first pick of the year was voted on by YOU, the listeners, and man, y’all have weird taste… Because of you, we watched and are discussing a checks notes rock ‘n’ roll fable? It could probably use a bit more of that devil music but STREETS OF FIRE (1984) is still a sight to behold, if only for young Willem Dafoe in shiny pleather waders. Lots of duckbutt pompadours and casual backhands on display here, so thanks we guess…

Sometimes we have to bend the rules to qualify artists as appropriate subject matter for One Hit Thunder, but not this week. Deadeye Dick are an undeniable choice, as they are almost universally known ONLY for their catchy pop rock hit “New Age Girl”. This week, we’re joined by Johnny Yetsconish to decide if the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack was the EXACT place this song should be, or if there’s more meat on the bone when it comes to this fun 90s band.

Happy New Year from a bunch of guys who aren’t big fans of magic OR railroad parties, but here we are discussing one of the few remaining NYE horror movies we haven’t done yet: TERROR TRAIN (1980) aka Prom Night with trains – and David Copperfield! Not the winning combination you’d expect, but at least we get Jamie Lee Curtis in a CLUE spinoff. Shovel that Xmas coal you got into the engine, we’re going full speed into 2023!

The songwriting duo Boy Meets Girl wrote chart-topping songs for several iconic artists, but it wasn’t until their 1988 single “Waiting for a Star to Fall” that they made a name for themselves as performers. The song was an enduring adult contemporary juggernaut, even finding its way into the hit film Three Men and a Little Lady a few years later. Even after their marriage ended, their song collaborations forged ahead, and they continue to release pop gems even today. This week, we explore their story and their songs, and we try to decide if Boy really should have met Girl in the first place.

Jeff “UH-Jeff” Nucera is back this week to discuss The Compleat Al. This pseudo-documentary was created to both promote Dare to Be Stupid AND tell the fictional tale of Weird Al’s life.

It’s almost Christmas Eve – the scariest damn night of the year! Well, at least that’s what our supposedly comatose grandpa told us in our childhood that started the chain of events leading our adult trauma. But what are the holidays if not for the old wounds they rip open like wrapping paper? After all these years and 3 of the sequels, we’re finally discussing the Yuletide classic SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT (1984) and are sad to inform you that you’re all naughty… The only thing left is to PUNISH!

The holiday season is here once again. To celebrate, we’re discussing the bizarre case of The Waitresses, which are a band that we’re able to discuss on One Hit Thunder because they’re a one hit wonder in two different countries for two different songs. While “Christmas Wrapping” is now considered a Christmas classic, it wasn’t well-known in the US until many years after its release. Meanwhile, “I Know What Boys Like” was ONLY a hit in the States. This week, we’re diving into the short-lived career of this Akron, Ohio band to determine if they bring the holiday cheer or leave us with a holiday sneer.

Today is our 150th episode, so we had to bring the heat with an undeniable 80s jam. Spandau Ballet may have formed out of a love for the Sex Pistols, but their 1983 musical love letter “True” was inspired by soulful sounds of Al Green and Marvin Gaye. This smooth pop classic dominated the radio airwaves for years, but we needed to know more. Can Producer Matt Kelly pronounce their name? Is “True” really Adam Sandler’s favorite song? Did Spandau Ballet TRULY bring the one hit thunder? On this week’s show, we ask the important questions about this well-dressed band.

Bet you thought we were running low on Christmas movies to discuss. WRONG. There’s a little film you may have forgotten about that has a mind-controlled Santa fight, Christmas in Los Angeles AND the worst punk cover of Jingle Bells you’ll ever hear, and that film is TRANCERS (1984). Helmed by none other than our boy Chucky Band, this holiday fruitcake of a movie has some sweetness, more filler than anyone should consume, and a lot of nuts, so of course it hits the spot for your hosts at Horror Movie Night. Get in the holiday spirit or we’ll jump back in time and kill your ancestors!
