Neill Blomkamp’s Next Film Greenlit, Titled ‘Chappie’

Briefly: Elysium hit theatres just a few days ago, and director Neill Blomkamp’s next picture has already been greenlit.

Sony and Media Rights Capital are co-financing the film, which was written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell. The movie, called Chappie, “tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes.  The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser, voices of the South African Zef counter-culture movement and members of rap-rave duo Die Antwoord, as the two gangsters.”

Production of Chappie is set to begin this Fall. A release date for the film has not been set.

I’m a huge fan of Blomkamp, and of course Sharlto Copley (who really was the stand out performance of Elysium). I really can’t wait to see what the duo does next!
