HBO Now Is Official, And Available Next Month

Briefly: It’s not an Apple TV that plays games, but it’s a pretty awesome announcement from today’s Apple Keynote.

HBO has officially revealed it’s long rumoured standalone streaming service, and it’s called HBO Now. Apple will be the official launch partner for the service, which will launch this April before the premiere of Game of Thrones new season.

The service carries a more than reasonable price too, launching at just $14.99 per month. HBO noted that if you sign up in April, your first month will be absolutely free.

“All you need to get HBO Now is a broadband connection and an Apple device,” said HBO CEO Richard Plepler. “When you subscribe to HBO NOW you will have access to all our acclaimed original programming — past, present and future — as well as our unmatched lineup of Hollywood blockbusters.”

The service has only been announced for the US, but I certainly hope a Canadian announcement follows, as the service will give full access to HBO’s library of TV and movies. Gah!
