CBS Finds Its ‘Supergirl’

Briefly: The project won a huge series commitment all the way back in September, and now we finally know who will play CBS and Warner Bros Television’s Supergirl.

It’s Glee and Whiplash actress Melissa Benoist. She landed her breakout role in Glee‘s ‘second class’ as Marley Rose, and was later cast in roles in Homeland and Oscar-nominee Whiplash, among others.

The series will focus on Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, who also escaped Krypton before it exploded. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

The series comes from Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, who previously teamed up for ABC’s short-lived (and fantastic) No Ordinary Family.
