By now you’ve probably heard the CW is getting a show called ‘Arrow’. And sure…strike one is that they don’t  just call it ‘Green Arrow’. Because that’s what it is. Strike two… being that it’s on the CW. Let’s be honest… minus that Justice Society arc and the hot girls… ‘Smallville’ was weak. But before it could strike out they released this trailer for the show that surprisingly looks like it could shape up to be good.

Oh and do pay attention for the easter egg towards the end.

Not too bad looking right? Wait…whats that? You missed the easter egg? Oh you missed Deathstrokes mask?

Oh now you’re a little excited.

Let me lay this out for a quick second…

The CW knows that Smallville is ending and they really need another super-hero show to fill the void being left. The best thing about the last few seasons of Smallville (I know that is a bit if an oxymoron, but all things are relative) was almost definitely Oliver Queen/Green Arrow and the character’s portrayal by Justin Hartley. It would make some sense that CW, and by default Warner Bros., would want to capitalize on that character’s popularity.

But, instead of building a Green Arrow spin-off from Smallville they decided to reboot the character completely, in a new “darker/grittier” universe (the WB’s current MO for all things super-hero. ugh) with no connection to Smallville whatsoever. They can’t even blame it on Justin Hartley not wanting to continue in the role because at SDCC 2010 he was open to the possibility!

Someday I really hope to understand the thinning that goes on behind the scenes at Warner Bros. in relation to their media strategies with DC Comics, but for now I remain baffled at their choices.

Anyway here is the clip:

The CW has released their first pic of Green Arrow actor Stephen Amell in costume from the pilot for Arrow via Deadline.com. And, unlike this time last year when Wonder Woman’s look from her doomed pilot was released, I don’t think anyone will be complaining this time about the costume. It looks pretty spot on, even if it is only from an angle. The suit was designed by Oscar-winning costume designer and frequent Tim Burton collaborator Colleen Atwood, so I’d hope it would look decent, as opposed to Wonder Woman’s outfit, which was designed at Party City.

The official synopsis for the series goes like this: “Billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Amell) who, after being marooned for five years on a remote island, returns with a mysterious agenda and a lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime.” That too, sounds about right. Maybe this series won’t suck? Or is that hoping for too much?

Now, lets hope they don’t screw up Black Canary when she shows up.
