Trailer Trash Heap: Moneyball, Tabloid, The Guard, & Lucky

Kyle Kriner here, geeks! Hollywood awoke out of it’s coma this week, and blessed us with some pretty cool trailers. I also wanted to take a moment to say that even though Green Lantern has already caught flack from the geek community, I quite enjoyed it. Instead of complaining about whatever little thing you did or didn’t get to see in the film, we should all be stoked that these movies are happening in our lifetime, and with such great visual effects. We should all celebrate the fact that Hal got the Hollywood treatment. The more everyone complains, the less chance we have of seeing any of our other favorite heroes on the silver screen. We should appreciate the movie for what it was. Green Lantern was a damn good flick in my opinion, and I hope they go ahead and greenlight (no pun intended) a sequel so we can see Sinestro as the big baddie. Woo…Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. Enjoy the trailers, and see ya next week, gang!

Tabloid

Nothing says excitement like British people and sex-deprived Mormons. I’ll probably be steering clear of this one.

The Guard

I’m worried that the pace of this movie will go south quickly, but I’m loving the back and forth between Gleeson and Cheadle. The racial stuff is just so awkward and random. Hopefully it stays fresh throughout the film.

Pariah

I think this one is really gonna touch on something that we sort of see everyday, but don’t experience much in film. At least not this up close and personal.

Lucky

Colin is more like his dad everyday, which is in no way a bad thing. This one looks interesting, and though I’m not sure what to make of it, I think if it hits the mark it will really be a fun time.

Dark Tide

I think we have found a respectable shark movie for the MTV generation. From the director of Blue Crush? Halle Berry? I’m still trying to figure out how this would all fit together, but it certainly looks better than Deep Blue Sea.

Bellflower

Muscle cars, fire, “hip” trailer, official Sundance selection. I don’t feel like there was anything here to warrant all the excitement. As a matter of fact, I’m sure that trailer was the same couple of scenes looped a few times.

Moneyball

Brad Pitt may not crank out the films like wildfire, but when he does it’s always something so different and interesting. I love the chemistry with him and Jonah Hill, and I love the concept of the movie. I’m looking forward to Brad’s performance in this one.

Griff The Invisible

This one looks epic. I’m down for a British version of Kickass anyday. And I love that they’re taking it even deeper into our hero’s life, and even giving him real powers. This one is sure to be a treat. Can’t wait.
