Trailer Trash Heap Knights of Badassdom, Drive, Haywire & Dark Knight Rises!

It’s Tuesday again, and yours truly Kyle Kriner is here with your weekly dosage of movie trailers! I’m always excited when I get to feature trailers for comic book movies. So needless to say this is a great week. I just turned 24 a couple of days ago, and of course everyone was at Comic Con. As always I get left here to do The Heap. But hey, no hard feelings, I love this job. Feel free to send me birthday wishes via giftcard, paypal, or hell, just tell your friends to come and read the column. Till next time, my friends!

Point Blank

This is definitely the coolest French trailer I’ve seen. We get a good set up, and our “everyman” hero who we can all root for. There’s a good amount of action, some thrills, and it looks like a big blockbuster action film.

Attack The Block

You just can’t help but watch anything that comes from “The Guys Who Produces Shaun Of The Dead.” And this doesn’t look to be an exception. The trailer is a ton of fun, with plenty of action and witty comedy. The type that we have come to expect from these films. The premise of an alien attacking this small neighborhood is full of promise, and I like what they’re doing with it.

The Last Circus

Wow. So this one is completely insane. As if people weren’t already scared enough of clowns. This one is basically It on crack. It’s disgusting, twisted, scary, and I couldn’t help but turn away.

Dream House

At first I wasn’t so sure. The whole haunted house thing tends to get pretty stale these days. But as the trailer goes on we learn a bit more, and see that there’s more to this one than a haunted house. I just hope that this concept comes across fresh, because this isn’t exactly the first time we’ve seen it.

The Amazing Spiderman

No need to beat a dead horse but I need to say I think a reboot is completely unnecessary, especially since the first two Spideys were great. This one doesn’t look bad, but doesn’t look to tread any particularly new ground. And I just can’t get past the fact that the kid playing Peter looks more like a skater punk than a nerd. His whole being just doesn’t fit for me. Who knows, the movie may be a good time, at least we get Emma Stone playing Gwen Stacy. But I doubt it could ever take the place of Raimi’s films in my heart.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy

Well this one obviously looks like a good time. It’s cool to see Sak (from Reaper) in a big film, his style fits perfectly into these type of movies. The concept is pretty original and there’s definitely some cool situations. The title alone is cause for viewing, the rest is just icing on the cake.

Paranormal Activity 3

C’mon. Do we seriously need an origin story for what is essentially just a series of home videos with a few big crashing sound effects in them? And on top of that, it’s because the little girls said “bloody mary” in the mirror?? Sometimes I just can’t take it.

Drive

Now this one has me interested almost right away, and even with no dialogue the trailer keeps me so involved. Then it teases you right at the end and leaves you hanging. Sounds like my prom night. Anyway, the trailer’s pretty cool, hopefully we get a good full product.

Detective Dee

Try as I might, I clearly have no idea what’s going on here. The setting and set pieces are cool, and the first part of the trailer looks very plot heavy. But towards the end we get some cool looking scenes and some combat. If we could get this with English subtitles, it could be a good flick.

Main Street

I literally did not recognize Orlando Bloom here. It took me till almost the end of the trailer for it to randomly hit me. That aside, the movie looks a little slow, it could have benefitted from a bit of comedy in the trailer, if the movie even has any. I’m not saying it’s bad, I just don’t think it’s my type of movie.

Haywire

We have a cool cast here, and an opening scene that I love. Just to see Channing Tatum walking in thinking he’s so cool, then getting his ass handed to him by a girl. Love it. It’s got a very Bourne movie feel to it, but looks like it could be just as good. Plenty of action, cool style, summer movie fare at it’s best. Even though it comes out in the winter. Oh well.

Knights Of Badassdom

I thought Role Models made LARPing about as funny as it could get, but this movie takes it to a whole new level. I love the cast, Steve Zahn is perfect here, and Summer Glau just looks great. The whole magic angle they threw on it is hilarious, and it even looks like we’re for some cool action scenes. I’m truly excited for this one.

Intruders

So we get a little taste of the movie. Nothing big, just enough to make us wonder. That’s what a teaser trailer is for. This one leaves us with almost nothing except the fact that something dangerous is certainly about to go down. Guess we’ll have to keep our eyes out for what’s next.

The Dark Knight Rises

I’m so cliche, saving this one for last. This is the one I’ve been jacked for since last week. I’m too excited for words. The trailer is a great tease, and we get to see Batman square up with Bane for that second at the end. It gives me chills. The only worry I have is that we’ll have to spend half the movie waiting for him to get over himself and put the cape and cowl back on. Either way, I simply can’t wait.
