The 80’s Live! A Hasbro Cinematic Universe is Coming!

For those of us who grew up during the 80’s and had the privilege of having Saturday morning cartoons, get ready for the mother of all nostalgia bombs.

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have announced that they are currently developing a cinematic universe comprised of Hasbro properties. Of course, this would involve popular franchises such as G.I Joe, but also franchises we haven’t seen in decades–namely Micronauts, Visionaries, ROM, and M.A.S.K.!

Your read that sentence correctly; Micronauts, Visionaries, ROM, and freakin’ M.A.S.K. are getting their own movies!

In order to create this new cinematic universe, Paramount and Hasbro have acquired the writing talents of Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind”) who will serve as executive producer on each film of the Hasbro cinematic universe, Brian K. Vaughn (“Saga”, “Y: The Last Man”), Michael Chabon (“The Amazing Adventures of Cavalier & Clay“), Cheo Coker (Netflix’s “Luke Cage”), Nicole Perlman (“Guardians of the Galaxy”, “Captain Marvel”), Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”), Joe Robert Cole (“Black Panther”), Geneva Robertson (“Tomb Raider”), Lindsay Beer (“The Kingkiller Chronicle”), and Nicole Riegel (HBO’s “Soldier Girls”).

Hasbro’s film label Allspark Pictures will produce all the films and the group’s first meeting will take place this upcoming Monday.

What’s interesting to note in regards to the writing staff is the diverse backgrounds of faith, ethnicity, and gender– which Hasbro’s CCO Stephen Davis says is crucial to have in developing its new universe.

“We first and foremost put together a list of writers who we wanted to be in business with and could be the world-builders that we needed, but we want to be sure that in the room we have diverse perspectives, diverse backgrounds and diverse experiences.”

What say you, Geekscapists? Which Hasbro property are you most excited about seeing on the big screen? The 7 year-old version of J.C. is beside himself with glee knowing that M.A.S.K. is coming back!
