Ted Danson Wows at Wizard World Philadelphia!

This past weekend, Philadelphia was treated to a con first: Ted Danson. Like many of his characters, he was charismatic and quite interesting to hear speak.

He treated fans to some of his favorite moments in shows, including Cheers, The Good Place, CSI, Curb Your Enthusiasm and more.

The crowd seemed most interested in The Good Place. He discussed the upcoming final season, and how it was ending by choice of the creators, not canceled. “Usually the network calls and says you’re all fired…this was the creator of the show, Mike Schur (The Office), who realized that he will have told the story that he wanted to tell. And he didn’t want to pad it and have those episodes where we are all caught in a snowstorm and we reminisce…and it’s pure padding.”

He even teased the crowd a little bit while discussing awards shows. “You all have award shows for your professions, right? No? That’s weird!”

He was asked about his favorite show to be a part of. “I’m a little bit of a Polyanna. I love whatever I’m doing at the moment. I truly love going to work. Cheers was brilliant…but I was 32 in a bar surrounded by idiots and actresses paid to say I’m sexy.” He then went on to discuss a shoot where Woody wasn’t wearing underwear, and in the show Woody the character jumped up on the bar (in the show) and Danson yanked down his pants in front of everyone.

In what was probably the highlight of the panel, George Wendt, who played Norm on Cheers, surprised guests by walking into Danson’s panel with a few minutes left. The only disappointment was that nobody yelled “Norm!” as he walked in. The two were asked about favorite moments on the show, which Wendt answered, talking about the two “Woody quotes” that he thought were funniest.

Wendt also admitted that he sat at the bar for so long that he kept himself busy in a rather amusing way. “I sat right next to the waitress station, and there were these cocktail napkins and cocktail straws, and just bombard people with spitballs…if you freeze frame you can see spitballs dinging off his forehead.”

“My crowning moment was Ted had his mouth open…” and you can guess where that one goes.

The whole panel is available for viewing if you want to watch. Definitely worth it.
