‘Red Dawn’ Remake Will Premiere At Fantastic Fest! Update: New Image!

FilmDistrict has announced that the troubled remake of 1984’s Red Dawn will premiere this year at Fantastic Fest. Fantastic Fest runs from September 20-27. Red Dawn is set to close the festival.

Red Dawn went into production in 2009, but was shelved due to distributor MGM having financial issues. FilmDistrict eventually picked up the film, which is set to hit theatres on November 23. Check out the trailer and a new image below! Notice Chris Hemsworth? He’s sure blown up since this one was filmed.

In RED DAWN, a city in Washington state awakens to the surreal sight of foreign paratroopers dropping fromthe sky – shockingly, the U.S. has been invaded and their hometown is the initial target. Quickly and withoutwarning, the citizens find themselves prisoners and their town under enemy occupation. Determined to fightback, a group of young patriots seek refuge in the surrounding woods, training and reorganizing themselvesinto a guerilla group of fighters. Taking inspiration from their high school mascot, they call themselves theWolverines, banding together to protect one another, liberate their town from its captors, and take back theirfreedom.  FilmDistrict will release RED DAWN in theaters nationwide on November 21, 2012, just in time for Thanksgiving.

Following the World Premiere, Fantastic Fest will transform the Austin American Legion into a maximum-security prison for the ultimate Red Dawn shindig.  Prisoners will experience mandatory enjoyment from delousing stations as well as free prison tattoos and head-shaves.  Executive chef John Bullington will be doling out wild-game bulgogi, kimchi and piping-hot shots of deer blood while the uniformed detainees enjoy the musical stylings of festival favorite Future Folk.

Sneak Peek At The Trailer For ‘Red Dawn’!

Last night me and fellow Scott Alminiana caught a midnight showing of Total Recall and during the trailers we both looked at each other and realized that we were about to see the trailer for Red Dawn. While the official trailer has not been released online yet I can tell you that it looks pretty damn good and very much like the original. And that’s a very good thing. What I can show is this teaser that Entertainment Tonight showed giving you guys a first look at it.

First Pictures From The Remake Of ‘Red Dawn’

Today USA Today showed the pictures from the remake of the 1984 classic Red Dawn. The film was shot in 2009 but was delayed due to MGM’s financial problems. The film is finally set to hit theaters on November 21st but not without some big changes having been made to the final film.

When it was shot four years ago it had a cast of then unknowns, some have since become break-out stars. The cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki,Isabel Lucas and Josh Peck. The film had an entirely different enemy army when it was shot but it has since been changed digitally for the final version as well as being re-edited.

“Originally it was the Chinese,” Hutcherson says. “And then there was the thought that the Chinese own most of the companies making movies and that maybe it wasn’t the best idea in the world.”

In the end, the attacking forces became the North Koreans (aided by the Chinese and Russians).

Like the original 1984 version communism is the ultimate villain. The first film starred a cast of then up and comers such as Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey (no body puts Baby in the corner), Lea Thompson, C. Thomas Howell, and introduced the world to Charlie Sheen. The film was set in Colorado and saw the cast play a group of teens who band together as “the Wolverines,” a guerilla unit, who fight an invasion of Soviet, Cuban and Nicaraguan forces at the dawn of World War III.  If you haven’t seen it I recommend you check it out. It’s currently available on Netflix Instant Streaming.
