Emily VanCamp (Revenge, Carriers) has landed the role of the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Deadline reports that VanCamp and Marvel Studios are currently negotiating to lock her in the role, which is believed to be that of Sharon Carter, in the upcoming sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.

VanCamp seems to have beat out a long list of candidates for the role in the Marvel Studios film. Much like their usual pattern,  Marvel Studios have chosen a candidate that wasn’t previously reported to be in the running for the film. Filming is set to begin in a few months on the Marvel Studios film.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to hit theaters on April 4, 2014.

Just last week at the Golden Globes, actor Toby Jones expressed his interest reprising the role of Arnim Zola in Marvel Studios Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now, while speaking with Joe Cunningham of HeyUGuys at the Critics Choice Awards, the actor let it slip that he has been called by Marvel and that he will indeed be returning as the Marvel Comics villain.

Now, it’s time to wonder which Arnim Zola we will see in the upcoming sequel. Will he be seen in his android body that we all know from the comics, which the blueprints were seen as an easter egg in Captain America: The First Avenger, or will he be merely appearing in flashback sequences in the upcoming sequel? Regardless, this is shaping up to definitely be one of 2014’s most anticipated movies.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters April 4, 2014.

While these aren’t too revealing at all, Disney has sent out a press release that contains brief synopsises for Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy. The press release also confirms that both films will be released in 3D. Could this cosmic force of epic proportions be Thanos or an entirely new threat that we don’t know about yet?

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 4/4/14. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will pick up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. The film stars Chris Evans in the title role and will be directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (Marvel) will be available in 3D.
Releases on 8/1/14. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, based on the Marvel comic books of the same name, features an unlikely cast of characters who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. James Gunn will direct.

Before it was officially revealed that Frank Grillo (Warrior, The Grey) had landed the role of Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones in Marvel Studios highly-anticipated Captain America: The Winter Soldier, comedian and radio host Matthew Aaron actually had revealed a week prior that the actor was testing for the role.

During a recent episode of Aaron’s radio show, Aaron called Grillo to congratulate him on landing the role. Arron asked Grillo if he would be appearing more than once as the villain to which Grillo replied:

“Yeah, it’s a good run.”

But more interestingly is that after Grillo returned to work on Homeland, the film he is currently filming with Jason Statham, Aaron revealed that the same source who had leaked the information that Grillo was testing for the role had leaked a little more information. The information was that not only would Crossbones appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier but be making an appearance in Joss Whedon’s sequel to The Avengers. Aaron also added that Grillo will apparently portray Crossbones in three films total. So, one can assume that a third Captain America film would be the likely third portrayal unless he is set to make a cameo in another of the “Phase Two” films.

Of course, Crossbones won’t be the main villain in the sequel but with rumors of Baron Zemo as well as Radioactive man, could the speculation I made a few months come true? Could Marvel Studios be heading down the Masters Of Evil route? Also, if Grillo is planned for a third solo outing for Steve Rogers, could Marvel also be going after another of Ed Brubaker’s great story arcs: “The Death Of Captain America”?

This is all speculation at the moment but if it turns out to be true…well played Marvel Studios.

If somehow you haven’t heard by now actor Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) will be playing Sam Wilson aka The Falcon in the highly anticipated sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. I don’t think it was ever officially confirmed prior to now but this was definitely the role he was speculated to be playing. The actor recently spoke with News Day and revealed that it’s a “huge honor” for him to be portraying the first African-American superhero in mainstream comics as well as playing a character in which his son, nephews and nieces could all idolize.

I’m playing the Falcon. He’s this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His plane crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers. He’s the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I’ve done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as the Falcon on Halloween. They now have someone they can idolize. That’s a huge honor for me.

You can actually check out Mackie’s latest movie, 10 years, in theaters this weekend.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters April 4th, 2014

A few days ago word broke out that Marvel may just be introducing their resident sorcerer surpreme in Thor: The Dark World. And now there’s a rumor that Viggo Mortensen may be up for the role. A Twitter user by the name of Roger Wardell, who previously leaked out information on Captain America: The Winter Soldier such as the appearance of The Falcon prior to them being announced, tweeted the following:

Inside News: There’s something “Strange” about Thor: The Dark World

Inside News: Marvel is negotiations with Viggo Mortensen for an unspecified role in one of their Phase 2 films

But then he tweeted this one right here that made me think otherwise about the Dr. Strange rumor:

Inside News: Every villain answers to somebody, even the Winter Soldier. Who better to answer to than a Baron?

It’s been speculated for quite some time that Baron Zemo would appear in the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger. While many are speculating that he could be up for the Dr. Strange role I am leaning towards Zemo myself. Could Marvel be setting up the Masters Of Evil? Right now this is just speculation and I would hold off on getting too excited until anything is officially announced. But, then again it could pan out to be true.  Which role would you rather see him play?
