Sony Moves ‘Elysium’ To Summer 2013, Bumps Back ‘RoboCop’

Sony Pictures has chosen to move the release date for Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi flick Elysium to August 9, 2013. That spot was up until today the release date for one of their other big releases, Jose Padhila’s RoboCop, which has been moved back to February 7, 2014. That August date is roughly around the same time that Sony released Blomkamp’s first feature District 9 back in 2009.

District 9 went on to gross $37.4 million on opening weekend and went on to bring in roughyl $200M-plus worldwide. Sony definitely has high expectations for Elysium which was originally set to hit theaters in March. This is actually a smart move on Sony’s part in regards to both films. It will allow Elysium to bring in more of that summer box office money while the RoboCop team is given more time to market and test the film and possibly go back for re-shoots if needed. So, uh by the way…when should we expect to actually see that Elysium trailer Sony?
