Terms of Service And Takedown Policies

Below are the terms of service and community rules for all users of Geekscape.net. Please take the time to read and understand these guidelines if you choose to participate in the community at Geekscape.net.

Be Smart About What You Post on Geekscape.net Either Privately or Publicly

You’d think that this would go without saying, but we still get requests to delete private messages all the time. We do not monitor the private messaging system on the website. If you’re not sure if you should be posting something either in the forums or anywhere else on the site: don’t do it. All of the liability of your posts – lies with you. You are not just an anonymous user … if need be, you can be tracked via your unique IP address. Be smart before you post… or just read and enjoy others’ conversation.

Geekscape Posted My Copywritten Material!

Obviously moderators can not watch every post. We do our best, but are only human. If you are the copyright owner or represent the copyright owner please contact us at contact@geekscape.net to report the post to us and have us remove the offending content. We will work with you to make sure all copyrighted materials stay off our forums. Mailed Takedown Notices should be addressed to DCMA Agent Jonathan London at: Geekscape c/o: Jonathan London 4506 Elmer Ave. North Hollywood, CA 91602 (323) 252-1157

Repeat Posts Will Be Deleted

This includes reposting something that was previously deleted or complaining about why a post was deleted. Geekscape’s staff and users are sensitive to the posts that appear on the website. If something was deleted on purpose, it was deleted for a reason. Mainly, this reason was that we don’t want it on our website. Posting similar comments can get you banned without warning. And if your buddy got banned and your posting something on their behalf, you will probably find yourself joining them pretty quickly.

Be Sensitive When Discussing Politics and Religion

You can discuss politics and religion but KEEP AN OPEN MIND. Trolls and trouble makers will be warned, then booted and then banned… not necessarily in that order.

No Sexism, Racism, Homophobia, or General Bigotry

This isn’t the middle ages. Offensive posts won’t be tolerated, even if made in jest. Geekscape is a friendly community, not a KKK weekend lynching retreat. Let’s remember that as geeks we’ve been deemed different by someone at some point in our lives, so let’s celebrate each other’s differences, not be intolerant of them.

Self Promote… But Don’t Be a Jerk About It

We’re proud of our members… but don’t abuse everyone else. Posts or comments that are deemed to be TOO in the service of self-promoting will be removed. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask us: contact@Geekscape.net We know our users and we’ll tell you if anyone will care or not.

No Posting of Personal Information

Messages containing other’s private information (ie. phone numbers, street addresses, credit card numbers, etc.), are not allowed in our forums.

Save The Fighting and Personal Attacks For Jean Claude Van Damme

Remember that Geekscape is a community made up of friends. While we understand that friends sometimes disagree, please keep a level head and stay on topic. We will not tolerate personal attacks. Trust us. Arguing intelligently and not resorting to cursing or insults will always work in your favor. Someone not agreeing with you does not give you a proper basis to attack them… even if they liked The Prequels.

You’re a Geek. Not a Criminal. So Don’t Carry On Like One.

We won’t tolerate the promotion or discussion of illegal activities or the influence of others to commit illegal acts. We understand that you are an elite hacker and a master pirate (or worse)… but go brag about it somewhere else. Geekscape.net celebrates the legal use and distribution of copy written material and we expect our users to do the same. Do not post links to sites where pirated material can be downloaded. This leaves us vulnerable and you will be banned immediately. In addition, the encouragement of harassment, extortion, murder, drug abuse or any other felony are expressly forbidden. DoS attacks, hacking, flooding and all other related computer crimes will be dealt with immediately and in the fullest cooperation with local and federal law enforcement.

Asking Why a Certain User was Banned Should be Done Via E-mail

Threads and posts questioning or discussing the actions of the staff will be deleted. We want to talk about our lives as geeks… not why your friend got themselves banned. Any questions about our policies or actions can be made by contacting us privately. Ignoring this request may be grounds for banishment.

Creating a New Account Once You’ve Been Banned To Continue Spamming the Site is Forbidden

If your account has been banned – it’s because we no longer want you in our community for legal, professional or personal reasons. If you’d like to appeal your banning, please contact us.

Respect the Staff.

We don’t always make the right decisions, but it is still important to treat all staff members with respect. If you have an issue with the way that a Staff Member is conducting themselves, either contact them directly and work it out or contact us at contact@geekscape.net. Attacking a staff member (even Gilmore) will not be tolerated. If you feel harassed by a particular staff member, please contact us.

Geekscape Decides Who Gets Deleted or Banned. The End.

Any violations of the above will be evaluated and actioned on at the discretion of the Geekscape staff. If you have a problem with a member or their actions, e-mail contact@geekscape.net and we will evaluate the situation and take action as necessary. This is a private, moderated website, and the administrators of Geekscape.net reserve the right to control what content is and isn’t allowed here. If you need further clarification on the above policies, please e-mail contact@geekscape.net
