According to Daniel Hall from 2Entertain the rights have finally been secured to release the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie on DVD in North America!
The movie was co-produced by BBC, Universal Television and Fox with North American distribution rights being held by Universal and Fox. Apparently Universal didn't care enough about the Last of the Time Lords to ever allow this film to be released here. It would seem though that the recent success of the new series has opened their eyes.
The DVD will include never-before-seen behind the scenes documentaries about the making of the film and the Eight Doctor's adventures off screen in audio and book form. Most exciting though is the news that a special commentary track has been recorded for the film featuring Paul McGann and the seventh Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy. No release date was given, but the DVD will be out in the next 12 months.
