So with Guardians of The Galaxy being a film now, and for the first time in a long time a film that actually has be interested, I wanted to go into it educated.

Where should I start if I want to have a proper knowledge of the series, characters and goings ons? Is there a trade or collected works that I should snag?

I would also like to know this! I’m not overly familiar with the characters, but the movie looks bad-ass!

I also have a Marvel Unlimited subscription, and there is an absolute ton of GotG on the service!

I would start with the Bendis/Steve McNiven series that just started about a year ago. You can also pick up the Annihilation trades from a few years ago but it’s going to be a much bigger read there. The recent Bendis/McNiven stuff keeps it simple.

yeah, if you want to whole recent history you need to go back to the Annihilation preludes up through the new series. it’s a butt load. the movie looks to be focusing on the new series though. you can fill in the Annihilation/Conquest/War of Kings/Thanos Imperative gaps with Wikipedia.

For the Bendis run, are there any collected trades I should snag or just start pirating CBR files?

meh, it’s alright but not sure about getting the trade(s) just as fill in for the movie. it’s 12 issues in or so, and they still haven’t really done anything.

the Abnett & Lanning stuff is worth owning though.

I had this issue, there’s soooo much out there that I just grabbed some stuff that looked good… Not a good approach… you know I think it publishers should try and come up with some kind of guide that explains this, sales would probably be a lot better if people didn’t just stop buying in frustration.
