The movies forum is seeming a little dead right now. With the busy Summer movie season upon us, I thought this could possibly liven it up a bit!

What movie have you enjoyed most so far this Summer? What are you most looking forward to that isn’t out yet?

  • July 7, 2012 at 9:52 pm

Well, because it came out during summer and the rest didn’t…The Amazing Spider-Man. I’m really looking forward to Total Recall. The trailers for it look great.

It’s a low summer when Moonrise Kingdom is still my favorite. That being said, it was great but definitely not what I was hoping for by this point.

All of my hope lies in you now, Batman… you fucking crazy mess of a character.

  • July 8, 2012 at 12:45 am

Haven’t had a chance to see Moonrise yet. Hopefully this weekend.

So far I think I enjoyed Brave the most. And it definitely resonated with me more than anything else so far.

Really looking forward to TDKR of course! Total Recall looked entertaining. And Looper too!

Also Jon, that analysis you did on Batman a month or two back was one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard. Extremely thought provoking.

It kind of puts the Batman in perspective. He’s one of the best characters there is… but I’m not sure he works if that’s not addressed. It does justify him being constantly angry though.

And I just realized the spelling of “favorite” in this thread. Fuckin’ Canadians…

  • July 8, 2012 at 10:07 am

Yeah, It was an awesome analysis, and very thought provoking. It’s hard to see the character anyway else now!

And yeah! Those dicks! Spelling shit wrong! The nerve!

Best movie this summer has been Game of Thrones. Yeah yeah its not technically a movie but it tells an amazing story and the pacing and editing in it are phenomenal. So there, my pick is Game of Thrones

I will always have horrendously fond memories of watching this MST3K tape I made. It had Danger Diabolik. Incredibly Strange Creatures who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies, Hobgoblins and Touch of Satan. Every so often, on a lazy sunday (moody blues reference intended) I will pop this in and watch a whole days worth of riffs.

Best one was Battleship and Wrath of the Titans, visual effects were awesome, all laid back relax and enjoy the show. :-P

The one liners in Battleship were the best of the summer. That movie just kept the ridiculousness coming. It was amazing.

not typically being one for drinking games I may actually turn Battleship into a drinking game if it truly is that jam packed with stupidity… plus I feel being intoxicated is the only way I could sit through that thing.

Speaking of a Battleship drinking game, I played Battleshots for the first time last weekend. Everybody lost (I ended up spending the night holding two peoples hair back as they threw up). Never again.

I loved Cabin in the Woods! Not sure if that counts. But yeah it was fucking awesome! The end with all the stuff that goes down and the most amazing cameo ever!

  • August 1, 2012 at 3:30 pm

So far it’s The Raid… hands down by far the best. Then Cabin in the Woods followed by The Avengers

I’m going to have to say that it has been a fairly weak year for Summer Movies. I really enjoyed Moonrise Kingdom. The Avengers was really well done so I had fun watching that. Also the Dark Knight Rises was a great end to a series. As far as the rest of the summer goes Total Recall might be alright, I really don’t know what my feelings are on it. I really love the original and I can’t figure out why a remake was needed.
Here in Seattle we are getting a special screening of the Nazi’s on the Moon movie Iron Sky which I am looking forward too, but other than that it has been sort of a let down. My wife and I find ourselves at home and I’m showing her films that she may have missed due to her not growing up geeky,
