I thought this would be an interesting topic to start up. What is everyones favourite movie? I’m always looking for new stuff to watch, and I’m sure others are too, so give us all some ideas!

My favourite movie is ‘Almost Famous’. Cameron Crowe just tells such a great story in this and the music, oh the music. I loooooooove the soundtrack to this. I also loved ‘Vanilla Sky’ and remember how much it made my head spin when the big reveal is shown at the end. Just awesome.

‘The Empire Strikes Back’. You’ve already seen it.
So now you have to go watch ‘The Bicycle Thieves’… which you might have already seen (when it was remade liberally and brilliantly as ‘Pee’s Big Adventure’).

@Jonathan Have you seen the Icicle Thief? it’s a little long in the tooth, but I liked it when it came out.
My favorite film remains “Wings of Desire”
…someone please explain to me why when a ‘what is your favorite’ thread goes up we end up with reply posts with 6 or 7 movies in them… that’s not a favorite, that’s a list of favorites… and then I think we should just link to Ranker at that point.

Children of Men. I could watch this movie every day. The visuals and audio are absolutely incredible, the plot is (mostly) believable, and the performances are wonderful.
I really don’t know what to say, except that I freaking love it.

Harold and Maude is my all-time favorite movie (Clerks and Garden State are close behind). All three films are what motivate me to write what i do. I love a well crafted coming of age dramedy and to me those are 3 fine examples of blending an interesting coming of age story (less so in Clerks), good dramatic moments and plenty of laugh out loud comedic moments.

Back to the Future all the way, I love the idea of time travel and love the characters (Doc by far) in it.

Rocky, followed closely by Rocky III, followed closer still by Rocky II, followed ridiculously close by Rocky IV.

Dave … I must break you.
Legends of the Fall is my all time favorite movie. It gets me out of any and all emotional jams. Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, and Aidan Quinn. Their performances just blow my mind. I’ve seen it countless times, and each time I get something new out of the experience. And I just love Alfred, damnit.

@Scott I loved Vanilla Sky, too! I finally saw it for the first time this year, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Much to my surprise, since I heard a lot of bad reviews …

I didn’t actually say anything about Wings of Desire did I? I think I’ve convinced a couple of people to watch it, although I have never heard back on what they thought of it. An American remake of it was attempted, but they missed the entire point of the story, it’s a metaphor for east and west Germany joining back together and it’s told through the story of an Angel who decides to become a mortal after listening to the thoughts of a trapeze artist. In the American version they skip the metaphor and instead tell the story of an angel who falls in love with a doctor…. The American version is called City of Angels and I’ve not seen it because the reviews were so poor.
Here’s a scene that shows the brilliance of the Camera work it’s just stunning… Sorry, there’s a tiny bit that’s in German and there’s no subtitles on this youtube clip.

Sounds like I need to finally watch Vanilla Sky.
I even worked at Blockbuster for 2 years back in the day and still haven’t seen it.
Side note – Fuck that place.
